Summary
The Director, Engineering - Power Generation is responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership for the design, performance, reliability, and lifecycle management of the Company's power generation assets and supporting infrastructure. This role oversees engineering standards, fleet performance, technology deployment, reliability initiatives, and technical support activities to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic direction of the power generation engineering organization, aligning engineering initiatives with business goals and operational requirements.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, technical specifications, design criteria, and best practices across the power generation fleet.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for power generation equipment, electrical systems, controls, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Drive fleet reliability, availability, and performance improvements through engineering analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective action programs.
  • Develop and implement asset lifecycle management strategies, including equipment upgrades, modernization programs, major overhauls, and technology deployment initiatives.
  • Oversee engineering support for power generation facilities, distributed generation assets, microgrid applications, and customer installations.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable safety, environmental, electrical, and industry regulations, standards, and codes.
  • Lead technical evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technologies that improve reliability, efficiency, emissions performance, and customer value.
  • Provide executive-level technical support for customer engagements, commercial opportunities, contract negotiations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with Operations and Fleet teams to resolve complex technical issues and optimize equipment performance.
  • Establish key performance indicators and performance monitoring programs for reliability, availability, emissions compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with OEMs, equipment manufacturers, engineering consultants, and contractors to ensure quality, reliability, and technical excellence.
  • Support capital projects by providing engineering oversight, technical reviews, risk assessments, and governance throughout project execution.
  • Develop engineering budgets, resource plans, and organizational objectives while ensuring effective deployment of engineering resources.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardization, operational excellence, risk reduction, and cost optimization.
  • Promote innovation and support the evaluation of emerging technologies, energy transition initiatives, hybrid power solutions, and emissions reduction opportunities.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering talent while building organizational capability and succession plans.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence throughout the engineering organization.

Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Work Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in power generation, distributed energy, utility, OEM, or industrial power systems environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience managing engineering teams and technical organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting reciprocating engine generation, gas turbine generation, microgrids, distributed generation, or utility-scale power systems.
  • Experience with fleet reliability programs, asset management, equipment lifecycle planning, and operational performance improvement initiatives.
  • Proven success leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and driving cross-functional business results.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing technical organizations, aftermarket service operations, or power generation project execution preferred.

Skills & Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of power generation systems, electrical distribution systems, controls, protection systems, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Strong understanding of industry codes, standards, and regulations, including IEEE, NFPA, NEC, NETA, ASME, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of power system studies, equipment sizing, load analysis, system design, and generation performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with generator controls, PLCs, SCADA systems, plant automation, and power management systems.
  • Strong strategic planning, organizational leadership, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop practical, business-focused solutions.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, capital planning, cost analysis, and resource management.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to develop engineering talent and build high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with engineering design, monitoring, and power system analysis software preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in industrial and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Must be available for occasional after-hours support and emergency response situations.
  • Must be able to walk, climb ladders, access elevated platforms, and navigate active power generation facilities.
  • Ability to travel to field locations, customer sites, manufacturing facilities, and project locations as required.
  • May be required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
