Job Description
Trusted Space is seeking a driven Senior Director, Engineering to grow, equip, and train Trusted Space’s highly technical engineering staff. Reporting to the VP, Operations, this leader will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s next phase of expansion: building high performing, empowered teams; elevating the processes and systems that help our engineers thrive; and implementing tools and Agile methodologies that support engineering development and quality. The Senior Director, Engineering will utilize people, business management, and technical skills to grow and advance our highly technical and mission driven organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • People Growth & Development:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive hiring growth strategy that focuses on building top talent in aerospace, autonomy, operations, software, and systems functional disciplines for direct, business development support, and product development teams.
    • Manage overall program and project staffing – ensuring pursuits, proposals, programs (internal and external), and other efforts are all appropriately staffed. Includes cross-functional coordination with Talent Acquisition, HR, IT, Security, Mission Area Leads, CTO office, and others.
    • Establish, update, and manage (with inputs from Engineering Functional Directors and Human Resources) employee development plans to include mentorship, training compliance, and performance reviews.
    • Develop clear, data-driven KPIs and report team growth performance to Executive Leadership.
  • Processes Generation and Management:
    • Establish and standardize processes that implement best practices, leverage lessons learned, and promote high performance across the organization.
    • In alignment with the Functional Engineering Directors, develop, manage, implement, and audit usage of the Command Media for the organization (e.g. Software Development Plan, Testing Strategy, Documentation Standards and Templates, etc.)
    • Provide oversight support, in coordination with the Technology Organization & Functional Engineering Directors, on engineering policies and processes with a focus on efficiency and quality, not bureaucracy.
  • Tools Implementation and Management:
    • Lead the Functional Engineering Directors to identify and implement the tools needed to execute and grow Trusted Space.
    • In coordination with the Functional Engineering Directors, establish approved and recommend programming languages, integrated development environments, requirements management, orbit analyses, Agile and DevSecOps methodologies, etc.
Qualifications
  • United States citizenship required.
  • Proven management-experience driving growth of engineering teams in coordination with cross-functional business areas.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with a track record of working with operations, hiring managers, and Executive teams.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing a scalable growth organization including people (hiring, mentorship, training, skill sets), processes (technical Command Media, engineering best practices), and tools (programming languages, MBSE tools, orbit analysis tools, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience leading Agile cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building capabilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in engineering, business, or a related field preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Strong familiarity with autonomy, AI/ML, space domain awareness, space control, C2/battlespace management, image processing, or related mission technologies.
  • Experienced engaging with external contract-to-hire and recruitment system agencies.
  • Experienced contributing to or leading mergers and acquisitions initiatives.
  • Experienced with C-Suite level communications.
  • Active or ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $185,000 - $240,000. Please note that this range is a general guideline and can vary. Trusted Space, LLC considers several factors when extending an offer including, but not limited to: scope, location, position responsibilities, education/training, key skills and business considerations.
