Job description

The energy industry is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation - from grid modernization and decarbonization to the rise of distributed energy resources and AI-driven operations.
AWS is seeking a Director of Solutions Architecture (SA) to lead and develop AWS' Energy technology organization. In this role, you will define the technical vision that shapes how the world's largest oil and gas, utilities, and power generation companies architect their Ai and cloud future, connecting business outcomes to technology innovation across traditional and renewable energy segments.
You will lead and develop a global team of SAs who partner with energy customers to embed AI into every enterprise process and design, migrate, and modernize production workloads in the cloud. Your team advises C-level technology executives, builds reference architectures, delivers technical strategies that accelerate adoption at enterprise scale, and guides customers through the operational aspects of a successful AWS cloud and AI journey. You will set the standard for how your team engages through collaboration and coaching solution design, customer engagement, and technical storytelling while building mechanisms that drive consistency and repeatability across accounts.
You will work with AWS Partners, Solution Providers and System Integrators, to build frontier solutions to solve the industry's toughest challenges.
This is a leader-of-leaders role that blends strategic leadership with deep technical credibility. You will partner with AWS sales, business development, professional services, and service team leadership to align technical priorities, influence product direction, and create scalable programs that drive customer outcomes. You will represent AWS externally as a recognized energy industry voice at executive briefings, industry conferences, and customer engagements, shaping how the market understands cloud's role in the energy transition.
This role will set the multi-year technical strategy for the energy vertical, identifying cross-customer patterns that inform AWS investments, and building a high-performing organization of technical leaders who deliver measurable business impact for customers navigating complex regulatory, operational, and sustainability challenges.
The AWS Energy Solutions Architecture team partners is a globally distributed team with builders in based in proximity to their customer base.
Key job responsibilities
- Define and execute the AI and generative AI technical strategy for energy customers, guiding your team to architect solutions that apply machine learning, agentic AI, and foundation models to industry challenges such as predictive maintenance, grid optimization, demand forecasting, and autonomous operations.
- Identify, develop, and realize business opportunities to generate customer value and AWS revenue.
- Lead, develop, and grow a team of SAs, coaching them on solution design, customer engagement, and thought leadership while fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion.
- Serve as a strategic technical advisor to energy industry executives (CIO, CTO, VP Engineering), building trusted relationships and influencing enterprise-wide cloud adoption decisions.
- Represent AWS as a recognized energy industry thought leader at conferences, executive briefings, and industry forums, shaping how the market perceives cloud's role in energy transformation.
- Partner with AWS service teams, business development, and professional services leadership to identify cross-customer patterns, influence product roadmaps, and create scalable mechanisms that accelerate customer outcomes.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field or 16+ years of equivalent professional experience in solutions architecture or technical consulting
- 15+ year experience in solutions architecture, enterprise architecture, or equivalent technical leadership roles
- 10+ year experience leading and developing large teams of senior technical professionals
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering cloud-based solutions for enterprise customers in the energy sector or similarly complex regulated industries
- Deep technical knowledge of the Generative AI principles and AI landscape, as well as AWS services
- Track record of serving as a strategic technical advisor to C-level executives and influencing enterprise technology decisions at scale
- 5+ year experience defining or delivering AI/ML strategies, solutions, or programs for enterprise customers, including leadership of teams building or deploying machine learning, data analytics, or generative AI solutions at scale
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or PhD) in a technical or business discipline
- Deep familiarity with energy industry challenges including grid modernization, operational technology convergence, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance
- History of creating scalable thought leadership programs, reference architectures, or technical content strategies that drive industry-wide adoption

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
