Job description

About Aigent Energy
AGent is building the leading software platform to optimize distributed generation resources - turning energy liabilities into reliable, monetizable assets. We bring AI to the aggregation, orchestration, and monetization of distributed generation in wholesale and retail power markets, delivering meaningful reliability, economic, and sustainability benefits to commercial, institutional, and industrial energy users, utilities, and grid operators.
We move fast, think big, and operate with a lean, high-trust team. Every hire matters here.
About the role
AGent is seeking an exceptional VP of Energy Markets to lead our market operations function and serve as one of the most strategically important voices in the company. This is not a purely operational role - and it is not a purely strategic one. We need both, from the same person, at the same time.
On one side, you are a seasoned wholesale energy market operator. You've managed assets in wholesale markets as a direct market participant, navigated tariffs, managed settlements, and built the internal protocols that allow a team to execute flawlessly across multiple markets simultaneously. You know what it takes to get a MW into a market and keep it performing.
On the other side, you are a commercially-minded leader who applies deep market knowledge to help AGent grow. You help the leadership team think through market prioritization, identify strategic opportunities, develop unique and differentiated products, understand the commercial implications of regulatory changes, and build the go-to-market intelligence that gives our sales team an edge.
You will build and lead the Energy Markets team, own the full lifecycle of MW participation across AGent's target markets, and be a critical partner to the CEO, VP of Product & Engineering, and GTM leadership as we scale. You'll help the leadership team identify and prioritize regulatory hurdles - understanding which barriers matter most based on where the largest market opportunities lie, and helping AGent navigate them strategically. Relationships with ISO/RTO and utility leaders are a meaningful differentiator for this role.
Responsibilities
Market Strategy & Commercial Intelligence
  • Serve as AGent's foremost expert (internally and externally) on U.S. wholesale energy markets - PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE, ERCOT, and beyond
  • Partner with the CEO and GTM leadership to develop AGent's market prioritization strategy - identifying where to compete, when to enter new markets, and how to maximize portfolio value
  • Apply market knowledge to commercial execution: help the sales team understand program economics, articulate value to prospects, and position AGent competitively
  • Identify and prioritize regulatory hurdles across target markets - assessing which barriers represent the greatest risk to commercial opportunity and developing a clear-eyed strategy for navigating them
  • Monitor regulatory developments across ISO/RTOs and translate their implications into strategic recommendations for the leadership team
  • Actively engage with ISO/RTO and utility stakeholders to influence regulatory policy and build relationships that benefit AGent's market access and positioning

Market Operations & Registration
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of MW participation across all AGent markets: registration, offer management, dispatch operations, and settlement
  • Build and implement internal protocols that align AGent's operations with the tariffs and operational procedures of each ISO/RTO we participate in
  • Ensure 100% of MW are registered, validated, and in market ahead of every seasonal start
  • Own program milestone delivery and all related operational deadlines
  • Build or buy the tools and technology necessary to achieve operational excellence across market operations

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Execution
  • Lead, and develop the Energy Markets team: setting a high bar for rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Dispatch & Customer Operations, and GTM to ensure all systems, data flows, and customer-facing processes are aligned and symbiotic
  • Partner with the VP of Product & Engineering to ensure the platform roadmap reflects market operational requirements and regulatory realities
  • Support the GTM team with market intelligence, program economics tools, and prospect-facing materials that sharpen the sales process

Data, Modeling & Performance
  • Own data acquisition, analysis, and management across AGent's market portfolio
  • Lead load modeling and performance forecasting to maximize MW earnings across programs
  • Build and maintain the metrics and KPIs that give leadership real-time visibility into market performance, portfolio health, and progress toward strategic goals
  • Drive continuous improvement in offer optimization, settlement accuracy, and overall market performance

Qualifications
Required
  • Deep, hands-on experience in U.S. wholesale energy markets - you have operated in ISO/RTO markets
  • Demonstrated experience registering MW with grid operators and managing the full participation lifecycle across multiple markets
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO/RTO tariffs, operational procedures, and the regulatory frameworks that govern wholesale market participation
  • Experience building internal operational protocols and systems that scale across markets and teams
  • Commercially-minded - you can connect market knowledge to business strategy, sales execution, and growth prioritization
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams in a fast-moving, data-driven environment
  • Strong Python and SQL skills - you are comfortable working with data at a technical level; Snowflake and Sigma experience a plus
  • Exceptional communicator - you can present to a board, brief the sales team, and engage an ISO policy team, all with equal credibility
  • 5+ years of experience in wholesale energy market operations, system implementation, or a closely related role

Preferred
  • Established relationships with ISO/RTO and utility leaders across key U.S. markets
  • Experience in the virtual power plant, DER aggregation, or distributed power plant industry
  • Track record of influencing regulatory policy or participating in ISO/RTO stakeholder processes
  • Experience implementing cross-functional technology platforms in an energy market context
  • Familiarity with Claude AI or other AI tools and an interest in using them to scale market operations

Note: We are unable to sponsor visas at this time. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Benefits
  • Competitive base salary, performance bonus, and early-stage equity
  • 100% employer-paid Health, Dental, and Vision premiums for full-time employees
  • Two health plan options: traditional plan with FSA, or HDHP with company-funded HSA
  • Basic Term Life Insurance + voluntary insurance options
  • Flexible PTO
  • Fully remote - work from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Direct access to the founding team and real ownership of your work from day one
  • A front-row seat to the energy transition
