POSITION REPORTS TO: SMD, Creative Director - Design

WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Director, Digital Design plays a critical role in shaping and executing Teach For America's digital-first visual communications across email, web, social, and campaign experiences. This position is responsible for translating strategic goals into compelling digital creative that strengthens engagement, drives clarity, and advances the organization's brand across key audience touchpoints.
This role is ideal for a highly collaborative designer with deep expertise in digital design systems, front-end design thinking, and multi-platform storytelling. The ideal candidate brings strong experience designing for responsive environments and understands how visual design decisions impact usability, accessibility, performance, and implementation across digital platforms.
The Director, Digital Design will partner closely with creative, marketing, communications, and digital teams to develop scalable, audience-centered creative solutions that align with Teach For America's brand strategy and organizational goals.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
  • Develop the design and execution of digital-first creative across email campaigns, web experiences, social media, paid media, and digital storytelling initiatives
  • Translate strategic briefs, audience insights, and campaign objectives into thoughtful, high-quality visual solutions optimized for digital platforms
  • Design responsive layouts and digital assets with a strong understanding of user experience, accessibility, and front-end implementation considerations
  • Collaborate closely with strategists, copywriters, marketers, developers, and external partners to bring integrated campaigns to life
  • Contribute to moderately complex projects by balancing brand consistency, audience engagement, technical feasibility, and production timelines
  • Ensure creative work aligns with brand standards while adapting appropriately across channels, audiences, and formats
  • Incorporate performance data, audience behavior, and platform best practices into creative decision-making and iteration
  • Present design rationale clearly and collaboratively, grounding creative choices in strategy, audience needs, and organizational goals
  • Participate in creative reviews and contribute thoughtful feedback that elevates overall team craft and consistency
  • Stay current on emerging digital trends, platform behaviors, and evolving best practices across digital design and social media

A WEEK IN THE LIFE
A typical week for the Director, Digital Design may include:
  • Designing a responsive email series for a national recruitment campaign
  • Creating social-first graphics and paid media assets optimized for multiple platforms
  • Building modular templates and reusable assets for website layouts
  • Reviewing performance metrics from a recent email launch and iterating on creative recommendations
  • Collaborating with a strategist and copywriter to concept a multi-channel digital storytelling campaign
  • Supporting motion graphic development for a social content series
  • Joining a creative team review to provide feedback and identify collaboration opportunities

YOUR EXPERIENCE
  • At least 4 years of professional design experience focused on digital communications
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality print and digital design work across email, web, social, and campaign ecosystems
  • Deep understanding of digital-first design principles, responsive layouts, and platform-specific creative best practices
  • Experience designing for email marketing platforms and web content management systems preferred
  • Motion graphics, animation, or video editing experience is a plus
  • Strong typography, layout, visual storytelling, and brand systems expertise
  • Ability to independently manage projects while collaborating effectively across teams and stakeholders
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience incorporating audience insights, engagement data, and performance learnings into creative work
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma; Canva experience a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in design, digital media, or related field preferred

The Marketing team builds and protects Teach For America's brand identity, ensuring consistent creative execution across national and regional teams. We develop integrated campaigns, digital experiences, and storytelling systems that connect with target audiences and reflect our organization's mission.
This role will help strengthen the organization's digital creative capabilities by bringing strategic thinking, strong craft, and deep platform fluency to how Teach For America shows up online.
YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Tier A: $74,300 - $97,500
Tier B: $81,000 - $106,300
Tier C: $87,600 - $115,000
