The Role

The Institutional Brokerage Database Services Center of Excellence (COE) COE is seeking a highly capable and motivated Director of Database Engineering and Administration to lead the design and delivery of database engineering solutions for mission-critical platforms.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with leading database technologies, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, SingleStore, NoSQL, and Snowflake. It is ideal for building and applying end-to-end database service expertise, with a strong emphasis on application database administration and solution design. The position requires a creative mindset and a strong sense of ownership for assigned problems and requests, while providing significant exposure to cutting-edge technologies across the broader database landscape.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 15 years of deep experience in Oracle database technologies, with a proven end-to-end understanding of the database stack, including Exadata, PostgreSQL, and distributed SQL databases, along with strong technical leadership on strategic initiatives. Experience with Db2 is an added advantage.

  • 5 years of cloud experience

The Skills You Bring

  • 15 years of experience in Oracle database administration, performance engineering, and replication engineering across Linux and engineered systems.

  • 3 years of database performance experience on additional platforms, including PostgreSQL, Snowflake, CockroachDB, SingleStore, and Microsoft SQL Server, across Linux and engineered systems.

  • 5 years of experience with distributed replication technologies (for example, Oracle Golden Gate, HVR and EDB Replication); preferred.

  • Experience with cloud database platforms; AWS, Azure, or Oracle OCI certification is a plus.

  • Deep domain expertise in Oracle internals, optimizer behavior, statistics management, partitioning, physical implementation, and workload management for highly scalable, resilient database platforms.

  • Advanced skills in query performance tuning and optimization, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Linux shell scripting, and building database monitoring jobs using PL/SQL.

  • Strong Linux shell scripting skills, with a solid understanding of Linux performance, preferred.

  • Strong understanding of Oracle RAC performance challenges.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in team environments while maintaining a positive, collaborative attitude.

  • Ability to define and drive database performance standards, best practices, and improvement initiatives; AWS cloud experience is desired.

The Value You Deliver

  • Perform applications database administration services including SQL code review, performance analysis, query tuning, database application design, physical data modeling, development support and Engineering.

  • Lead proof of concept efforts to evaluate and enable new technology solutions

  • Interface with enterprise teams for Systems Administrators, Cyber Security and Capacity Planning groups as and when situation demands

  • Should have strong time management skills with willingness and ability to handle multiple projects/initiatives at the same time

  • Self-motivated with strong team, interpersonal and communication skills!

  • Establish database standards for operations, upgrades, migrations and onboarding new applications and/or clients

  • Write clear, concise, well organized technical documentation to maintain standards and procedures

The team provides end-to-end database services across a broad set of platforms, including Db2, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, CockroachDB, Singlestore, DynamoDB, Aerospike, and Snowflake.
