What You'll Do

Ascent Global Logistics is looking for a Data Practice Manager to own our data function end to end including the team, platforms, and roadmap. You will lead a team of DBAs, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers, drive our data warehouse and reporting initiatives, and own Ascent's Master Data Management practice.

This is a leadership role that stays close to the work and functions as the senior escalation point. You will need the ability to coach, troubleshoot, and get hands-on when necessary. You will also work closely with our software development teams and push AI tools into how the team builds and delivers.

  • Own and grow Ascent's Data practice - team, standards, and roadmap
  • Manage a team of DBAs, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers
  • Partner closely with and support internal software development teams
  • Lead delivery of our major data warehouse project from build through rollout
  • Serve as an experienced escalation point for complex data, reporting, and database issues
  • Lead data source integration initiatives, Snowflake modeling, data team SDLC standards, and quality practices
  • Lead SSRS-to-Power BI modernization and reporting governance
  • Ensure customer-facing reporting, file exchanges, key workflows, and other critical data services are working, accurate, and supported
  • Chair the Data Governance Committee
  • Provide leadership updates on major project activities, status, and team accomplishments
  • Coach team members and establish backup skill coverage for the IT Data team
  • Own data backup and data retention across the data platform
  • Own the budget for the Data practice
  • Manage work assignments following Ascent's work management process

What You'll Bring

  • Experience 5+ years in data-related work - data engineering, warehousing, analytics, or DBA roles
  • 3+ years managing teams and delivering projects
  • General experience with the Microsoft Azure cloud environment, SQL source integration, ELT pipelines, Snowflake modeling, data quality, and SDLC practices
  • Experience leading reporting initiatives leveraging Power BI and Power Automate
  • Experience with Master Data Management
  • Experience leading IT data governance practices
  • Experience using AI tools in day-to-day delivery
  • Experience supporting customer-facing reporting and major account data workflows
  • Experience working with senior leadership
  • Experience managing offshore teams
  • Transportation logistics experience is a big plus
