Job description

Job Summary - Director Cancer Services

In collaboration with the Nursing managers, Cancer Care program managers, Social Workers, and multi-disciplinary teams serving oncology patients, manages and provides oversight for all cancer program initiatives. Provides vision, guidance, and support to the program staff. Collaborates with the medical and leadership team to develop regional and site-specific program goals, objectives, budget and necessary infrastructure to support departmental business. Oversees and ensures communication link to inpatient oncology care coordination teams.
Essential Functions - Director Cancer Services
  • Oversees the activities of clinical and administrative staff who are engaged in providing cancer care to patients at Corewell health. Provides direction and supervision to assigned employees ensuring effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Assumes day-to-day accountability for the delivery of high quality services for the Cancer Program through consistent application of policies, procedures, protocols and standards and focusing on implementation of best practice.
  • Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates assigned employees. Maintains accountability for objective performance monitoring. Initiates personnel actions in accordance with departmental and health system policies and philosophy, participating in disciplinary actions and terminating employees in consultation with up-line.
  • Acts as an advocate and communicates with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members regarding customer, employees, management and quality care issues, promoting interdisciplinary and community partnerships.
  • Acts as a mentor/coach/role model/resource to employees and provides ongoing communication to the team on management issues and departmental goals. Monitors the quality and safety of areas of responsibility.
  • Performs program development and implementation of Cancer Care support services, Medical Social Worker services, multi-specialty teams, , nutrition, genetics, Lung Screening Clinic, Infusion Centers, High Risk Clinics, and CAR-T as assigned.
  • Provides annual recommendations regarding departmental annual operating budgets, and ensures that operations are managed within established guidelines. Encourages an environment that promotes research
  • Develops programs and collaborative strategies to enhance growth and revenue for the Oncology service line. Oversees compliance with hospital and commission on cancer accreditation standards, where assigned.
Qualifications - Director Cancer Services
  • Required Bachelor's Degree BSN or BS in Health Sciences or Business Administration
  • Preferred Master's Degree Nursing, Health care Administration, Business Administration or related field
  • 3 years of relevant experience supervisory experience or equivalent Required
  • 3 years of relevant experience relevant experience planning, developing, and evaluating policies and programs Required
  • Programmatic and /or Social Worker strongly preferred
  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan preferred Or
  • CRT-Radiation Therapist - ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologist preferred Or
