Job description

Position Title: Junior Building Custodian

Department: Custodial

Reports to: Senior Manager of Security & Custodial Services
FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-exempt
Grade: Union

Position Description:

Under general supervision, the junior building custodian performs work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility, performing such tasks as sweeping, dusting, mopping, polishing, waxing, gathering and disposing of refuse, light labor, and other related work as required. Supervision of others may occasionally be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Sweep, mop, wax, and buff floors of bathrooms, public areas, and other assigned areas.
  • Clean bathroom facilities and replenish supplies (requires working with cleaning chemicals).
  • Dust and polish office furniture.
  • Vacuum rugs and carpets.
  • Empty and wash wastebaskets.
  • Set up for special events and classes.
  • Inspect building and grounds to note general condition and necessity for repair.
  • Report conditions requiring services and need for repair.
  • Arrange for and assist in the moving of furniture and equipment.
  • Request, store, and issue janitorial supplies.
  • Prepare reports and other required record-keeping.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of paid custodial experience
  • Valid driver’s license, if applicable
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to lift and move supplies and assist in moving furniture and equipment
  • Ability to climb ladders to do cleaning as needed


Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range – $41,600 - $44,901
    Brooklyn Botanic Garden considers several factors when determining the appropriate salary to offer a candidate within the listed salary range. These factors include (but are not limited to), the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate’s relevant work experience and education/training, prior union/ DC37 experience (for union positions), job skills, equity across the institution, as well as market and organizational considerations.
