Job Title: Advanced Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description:

A member of the engineering team who ensures advanced manufacturing concepts are incorporated into Morgan Olson operations by driving design for manufacturability initiatives, new process development, reducing operational costs, and eliminating inefficiencies in both new and existing aluminum body fabrication and assembly processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES:

ย 

  • Identify, plan, and oversee manufacturing improvement projects to improve plant safety, quality, productivity, and reduce cost.
  • Develop and execute projects with favorable ROI to agreed timing plans.
  • Create new or revised manufacturing process plans, including capital equipment, required investment and rate of return, labor and related aspects, while managing project spending to approved plan.
  • Provide written and verbal project updates as required to stakeholders
  • Research and analyze best practices in manufacturing concepts and trends for aluminum body fabrication and assembly operations; stay abreast of latest manufacturing technology and leverage appropriate technology.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, cross-functional team outputs, and detailed timelines
  • Engage third-party vendors to quote and source equipment and services necessary for projects
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Identify and mitigate manufacturing risks that could hinder project implementation and sustainability
  • Research and present conceptual proposals regarding advanced manufacturing practices and design for manufacturability opportunities
  • Participate in design reviews and provide manufacturability guidance in fabrication, assembly, coating, and test.
  • Comply with the established procedures, processes and systems requirements set forth by the company
  • Other duties as developed or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering
  • 3+ years direct relevant experience
  • Strong technical background with passion for design for manufacturability application.
  • Proven experience in lean manufacturing concepts and implementation.
  • Knowledge and practical application of GMAW and GTAW in both steel and aluminum.
  • Working knowledge with CNC brakes, punches and routers in aluminum sheet fabrication.
  • Excellent project management skills, including developing and managing a project plan, establishing project priorities, working to deadlines, scope shifts, and controlling multiple projects in various states of readiness to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Experience in capital equipment justification.
  • Experience working in cross functional teams in a manufacturing environment; preferably in sheet aluminum forming, welding, and assembly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels and channels of the organization.
  • Advanced listening skills with the ability to maintain focus to extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple time sensitive priorities.
  • Self-motivated and executes responsibility without extensive direction or motivation
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite Products including Microsoft Excel, Project, and PowerPoint and Teams.
