Position Summary
Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of the Utility position.
Wash and clean tableware, pots, pans and cooking equipment. Keep the dishroom and equipment clean and organized.
Essential Job Functions
  • Load, run, and unload dish machine.
  • Keep the dish machine clean and report any functional or mechanical problems immediately.
  • Monitor dish machine water temperature to ensure sanitary wash cycle.
  • Wash and store all tableware and kitchenware.
  • Keep dishroom clean and organized.
  • Maintain adequate levels of clean tableware for dining room and kitchen.
  • Bag and haul dishroom trash and recycling to dumpster at designed times.
  • Handle tableware carefully to prevent breakage and loss.
  • Maintain adequate levels of dish detergents and cleaning supplies.
  • Clean food preparation and production areas as required.
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the Dining Services Management Team.

Other Job Functions
Job Requirements
  • Develops and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as with other departments within the facility to assure that food service can be properly maintained to exceed the needs of the residents.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
  • Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals to the Dining Services management team.
  • Attends and participates in annual in-service training programs.

Safety and Sanitation
Washes pots and dishes, etc., in accordance with sanitary regulations as well as with our established policies and procedures.
Follows safety regulations and precautions at all times.
Follows established Infection Control and Universal Precautions policies and procedures when performing daily tasks and follow proper hand washing procedure.
Ensures that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
Reports all hazardous conditions and equipment to your supervisor immediately.
Reports all accidents and incidents to your supervisor on the shift in which they occur.
Assists in maintaining food storage areas in a clean and properly arranged manner at all times.
Disposes of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
Reports missing or illegible labels or MSDSs to your supervisor.
Expectations of the Position
  • Dependable, report to work on-time for every schedule shift (ready to work at beginning - start of shift) and work full schedule shifts unless physically unable or pre-approved Paid Time Off (PTO) which includes personal and vacation.
  • Willing and able to work overtime and weekends as required by the position and/or approved by management.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Must be clean and neat in appearance and have a "friendly," hospitality-oriented, and service-oriented demeanor.
  • Abide by work-related / job procedures and organization policies; (refer to the Employee Handbook).
