Position Summary
The User Experience Content Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the Town's digital transformation strategy by developing and optimizing content for digital tools, services, and platforms. Reporting to the Manager, Customer Experience and Branding, the User Experience Content Specialist collaborates closely with the Communications and Customer Experience team, IT, internal divisions, and vendors to produce plain language, accessible, and user-centered content for applications, online portals, forms, and other digital experiences.
This position requires a strong grasp of digital communications, content strategy, plain language principles, and web accessibility. The Specialist ensures that online tools and content support seamless, intuitive, and effective interactions between the Town and its residents, businesses, and stakeholders.Major Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Digital Content Strategy and Development

    • Develops, writes, edits, and optimizes digital content for websites, forms, applications, portals, and customer-facing digital services

    • Translates complex business and technical information into clear, accessible, and user-friendly content.

    • Applies plain language, accessibility, and content design best practices to ensure an inclusive user experience

    • Conducts content reviews and audits to identify opportunities for improvement and support continuous enhancement of digital services

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Partners with business units, technical teams, and vendors to gather requirements and develop effective customer-facing content

    • Works closely with designers, developers, and project teams to ensure content is integrated seamlessly into digital products and services

    • Provides content expertise and guidance to support digital modernization initiatives, service enhancements, and new platform implementations

    • Fosters strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure content aligns with operational processes and customer needs

  • User Experience Optimization

    • Applies UX writing and user-centered design principles to create content that helps users complete tasks efficiently and confidently

    • Collaborates on customer journey mapping, content flows, and digital experiences that improve service delivery

    • Leverages user testing, analytics, search data, and customer feedback to evaluate content effectivenesswq and identify opportunities for optimization

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Communications, Digital Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Information Design, Journalism, UX Design/UX, Digital Media, Professional Writing, or related field

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in digital content development, communications, or UX writing

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams with IT, designers, and subject matter experts to deliver digital tools or services

  • Demonstrated experience writing for web, forms, applications, or self-service portals with a focus on accessibility and user needs

  • Excellent writing, editing, and plain language communication skills

  • Strong understanding of digital content best practices and user-centered design principles

  • Comfortable working with web content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) and digital service tools

  • Basic knowledge of HTML or form-building platforms is an asset

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality content under tight timelines.

  • Strong interpersonal and consultation skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence across teams

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Understanding of accessibility (AODA) and public sector requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate certificate or training in UX Writing, Content Design, Plain Language, or Web Accessibility is considered an asset

  • Experience working in a public sector organization and/or a municipal setting

  • Training or certification in AODA compliance, WCAG, Plain Language, or UX Content Strategy is an asset
