Main Purpose of Job
\r\nThe main purpose of this\r\nposition is to operate the main power plant and auxiliary mechanical rooms in a\r\nState Office Complex to ensure proper quality temperature control of\r\napproximately twenty-three buildings, which could require repairing and\r\nadjusting various heating and air conditioning equipment. The power plant\r\noperates 24/7, the incumbent may be required to work various shifts, weekends\r\nand/or holidays.\r\n\r\nThis is an emergency essential\r\nposition subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this position\r\nmust be willing and available for duty at all hours, day or night, and are\r\nrequired to remain or report for duty at all hours as needed to maintain the\r\ncontinuous operation of this agency.\r\nIf you are the selected\r\ncandidate for this position, you will be required to complete a Pre-Employment\r\nPhysical, which will assess your ability to safely perform the essential\r\nfunctions of this position.\r\n\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Duties for this position\r\ninclude, but are not limited to:\r\n- Safely operate and maintain\r\ncentral plant equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, and auxiliary\r\nsystems. \r\n- Monitor and record equipment\r\nreadings and respond appropriately to abnormal conditions. \r\n-Perform preventive and\r\ncorrective maintenance to minimize downtime. \r\n-Read and interpret blueprints,\r\nschematics, and technical manuals. \r\n-Utilize computerized\r\nmaintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation systems. \r\n- Respond effectively to\r\nemergencies and support 24/7 facility operations.\r\n- Work independently while\r\ncollaborating with maintenance staff, contractors, and building management. \r\n- Maintain compliance with\r\nOSHA, environmental, and the State of Maryland safety regulations for a 24-hour\r\noperation.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or\r\npossession of a State high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience: Three years of experience as a Stationary Engineer 1st\r\nGrade.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may\r\nsubstitute additional experience up to four years as a licensed first-grade\r\nengineer on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute\r\nU.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Utilities\r\nman classifications or Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Mechanic, or\r\nUtilities Chief specialty codes in the Equipment Maintenance field of work on a\r\nyear-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nApplicants must possess\r\nthe following additional qualification(s) to be\r\nconsidered. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n\r\n\r\nStrong preference will be given\r\nto applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).\r\nInclude clear and specific information on your application regarding all\r\nqualifications.\r\n-Possession of a Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License with 5 or more years of central plant operations experience.\r\n-Experience operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, generators, and steam distribution systems in a large institutional, government, healthcare, or higher education facility.\r\n-Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), including Tridium Niagara, Metasys, or other automated building control systems.\r\n-Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), such as eMaint, Maximo, or a similar platform.\r\n-Experience in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems while minimizing downtime to critical operations.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this\r\nclassification must possess and maintain a current license as a Stationary\r\nEngineer, 1st Grade from the State Board of Stationary Engineers.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
\r\n1. Safety Requirements: Ability to use and wear\r\nrequired personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with OSHA, State of\r\nMaryland, and Department of General Services safety policies.\r\n2. Communication Skills: Ability to read\r\ntechnical manuals, maintain accurate operating logs, complete work orders, and\r\ncommunicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and building\r\noccupants.\r\n3. Computer Skills: Proficiency in using\r\ncomputerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), building automation systems\r\n(BAS), and standard office software for documentation and reporting.\r\n4. Certification Maintenance: Must maintain all\r\nrequired licenses and certifications in good standing as a condition of\r\ncontinued employment.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
