Dispensary Security Agent
Reports To: General Manager
Department: Retail Operations
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Dispensary Retail Location
Position Summary
The Dispensary Security Agent is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and compliant retail environment in accordance with Ohio Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) regulations, internal SOPs, and company operational standards. This role protects patients, customers, team members, inventory, and company assets while supporting professional and welcoming guest experience. Security Agents serve as the first and last point of contact for customers entering and exiting the dispensary and play a critical role in regulatory compliance, incident prevention, and de-escalation.
Key Responsibilities
Security & Asset Protection
  • Monitor all entry/exit points and verify valid government-issued identification prior to entry.
  • Enforce age and access requirements in compliance with Ohio DCC regulations.
  • Monitor sales floor, vault areas, and perimeter through active patrols and surveillance systems.
  • Maintain awareness of all camera coverage zones and report blind spots or technical issues immediately.
  • Deter theft, diversion, loitering, or suspicious activity.
  • Secure facility at opening and closing in coordination with leadership.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure strict adherence to Ohio Administrative Code 1301:18 and internal cannabis control policies.
  • Document incidents thoroughly using company reporting systems.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections and audits as requested.
  • Maintain visitor logs and vendor check-in procedures.
  • Verify transport manifests upon receipt of deliveries (as directed by management).
Guest & Team Support
  • Provide professional, calm, and welcoming first contact for all guests.
  • De-escalate conflicts using approved techniques.
  • Support leadership during disruptive customer situations.
  • Maintain clear communication with Managers, Supervisors, and Intake teams.
  • Ensure lobby capacity and flow remain orderly and compliant.
Emergency Response
  • Respond to alarms, disturbances, or emergency situations.
  • Execute emergency protocols (fire, severe weather, medical, security threats).
  • Coordinate with law enforcement or emergency responders when necessary.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid certification (if required by company).

Required Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous security, law enforcement, military, or asset protection experience preferred.
  • Ability to pass background screening in accordance with Ohio cannabis regulations.
  • Valid driver's license (if required for armored escort or site patrol duties).
  • Strong observation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in highly regulated industries (cannabis, pharmacy, banking, gaming).
  • Knowledge of METRC compliance environments (awareness level).
