What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Development Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Development Technician, you need a background in engineering or applied sciences, strong problem-solving skills, and relevant technical training or an associate degree. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, data analysis software, and standard operating procedures is typically required, and certifications like IPC or Six Sigma can be advantageous. Attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with engineers and accurately documenting results. These skills and qualities ensure precise experimentation, efficient project support, and successful product development processes.

What are some typical challenges a Development Technician faces when working on prototype builds?

Development Technicians often encounter challenges related to tight deadlines and rapidly changing project requirements, especially during prototype builds. They may need to troubleshoot unexpected issues with new materials or components and quickly adapt to evolving engineering specifications. Communication and collaboration with engineers and other departments are key to ensuring that prototypes meet quality standards and function as intended. Staying organized and documenting changes thoroughly are essential skills to navigate these challenges effectively.

What are Development Technicians?

Development Technicians are skilled professionals who assist in the design, development, testing, and implementation of new products, systems, or processes. They often work in laboratories or manufacturing environments, supporting engineers and scientists with hands-on tasks such as assembling prototypes, conducting experiments, and collecting and analyzing data. Their role is crucial in bridging the gap between concept and production, ensuring that ideas are effectively translated into tangible results. Development Technicians may also be involved in troubleshooting and maintaining equipment, as well as documenting procedures and findings.

Job description

Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compilerโ„ข technology. This full-stack technology enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing for the many device classes frustrated by semiconductor methods and to open up entirely new product classes. The Matter Compilerโ„ข technology fully realizes the digital manufacturing dream: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device - one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compilerโ„ข technology - that we will be unveiling to the world soon.
