Job description

Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. (GTA) is currently seeking an experienced LABORATORY MANAGER for our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Division in Sterling, Virginia. Laboratory Managers are responsible for training and oversight of people working in the lab, performance of laboratory testing, maintenance of laboratory equipment, quality assurance and productivity of the lab. Responsibilities include:
  • Train and supervise entry-level technicians for laboratory moisture-density relationships and
  • soil classification as they relate to field applications
  • Ensure accuracy of borings logs from field based on visual classification
  • Conduct moisture-density tests, sieve analysis (with or without hydrometers), limits testing, direct shear, unconfined compression, California Bearing Ratio (CBR), permeability, and consolidation tests in the laboratory
  • Perform compressive strength testing on concrete cylinders from field
  • Calibrate and verify field-testing equipment; maintain third-party calibration reports for laboratory equipment
  • Ensure all paperwork complies with the laboratory quality assurance manual. Compute, graph, and process laboratory data
  • Keep Quality Assurance manual updated to meet AMRL, CCRL, and WACEL standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory
  • Enter lab units and billing information weekly

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of Lab Manager and construction materials testing experience.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
  • WACEL, NICET, ACI certifications for field and lab
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, Outlook and Adobe
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and peers both verbally and in writing
