Job description

BMG Clinic/System Lab Manager

Under the direction of the Lab Services Director develops, administers, directs and implements all lab and related patient care activities, for areas of accountability.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to standardization of systems, education and training, identification of efficiencies, integration of performance improvement strategies, processes and communicates plans which support lab goal attainment while fostering patient, physician and employee satisfaction.Acts as a technical consultant and/or CLIA Lab Director as needed for BMG labs across TN, MS and AK. Performs all other duties as assigned.  

The individual in this position:

Works in close collaboration with the lab and medical assistant team to meet and support training and regulatory needs.  

Assess lab systems and design, develop, implement, direct, monitor and evaluate new systems, projects and programs; update existing services on an ongoing basis and/or as assigned.

Manage lab business practices in order to maximize revenue and justify human and material resource allocation

Design, develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive effective quality assurance program to ensure cost effective quality health care for patients.

Maintain responsibility for personnel management in those areas designated by the Medical Director and participate in providing an effective workforce for the overall department.

Develop and ensure implementation and documentation of departmental operating policies and procedures in accordance with institutional policies and requirements of regulatory agencies for designated lab sections and participate in overall departmental policy development as required.

Serves as a resource for lab orders and procedures as well as regulatory requirements and insurance limitations.  

Utilizes Laboratory skills to perform and report results of clearly defined laboratory procedures assuring optimal patient outcomes.  

Assists with the training of other employees under the direction of the Lab Services Director.  

Responsible for assigned shifts and subject to overtime and call back as required.  

Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience

5 years lab experience required; Management experience preferred

Experience in a clinic setting preferred

Project management experience preferred  

Education

Bachelor Degree in medical laboratory science from a NAACLS accredited MT program or equivalent to qualify as a technical consultant required

State Licensure and/or National registration or certification in concordance with current Federal and/or State Regulations required, Supervisor License Eligible if not already obtained  

Masters in Lab Sciences or Health Administration preferred  

Training

Bachelor Degree in medical laboratory science from a NAACLS accredited MT  

NAACLS program completed or experience as required

QA management experience 1 yr minimum required

Diagnostic coding for medical necessity preferred

2 years Hematology, Urinalysis and Chemistry experience  

Special Skills

Familiar with computer and computerized equipment, organization and team skills required.

2-year phlebotomy and triage preferred

EMR proficiency preferred

Dealing with ref labs preferred

Insurance pertaining to labs preferred

Supply management experience preferred

Licensure

Nationally accepted laboratory certifying agency required. Specialty certs may include SBB. SC, SH, SI, SM
