How You'll Contribute
A Certified Nursing Assistant / Health Unit Coordinator (CNA/HUC) who excels in this role combines compassionate patient care with strong administrative and communication skills to support efficient unit operations and positive patient outcomes.
This is a shared role that provides both administrative support and direct patient-care assistance within the Emergency Department. This position helps maintain efficient unit operations, communication, patient flow, and safe, timely care.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Maintaining medical records and electronic health records.
  • Answering telephone calls, relaying messages, and coordinating diagnostic testing and transportation.
  • Serving as a central point of communication among medical staff, patients, families, and other departments.
  • Managing unit supplies and equipment and helping maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Providing clerical and administrative support to nurses and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assisting nursing staff with direct patient-care activities under the direction of an RN and within the NAC's scope of practice.
  • Obtaining and documenting vital signs and assisting patients with mobility, positioning, hygiene, toileting, and other activities of daily living.
  • Assisting with patient transport, room turnover, stocking supplies, and preparing rooms for incoming patients.
  • Collecting specimens and completing other delegated clinical tasks based on training, competency, and facility policy.
  • Promptly communicating changes in a patient's condition or safety concerns to the assigned nurse.

This combined role requires strong organizational, multitasking, critical-thinking, communication, and customer-service skills, along with the ability to transition between administrative responsibilities and direct patient-care needs in a fast-paced Emergency Department.
What We're Looking For
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Washington State Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic health records preferred.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
