Position: Senior Highway Engineer - Project Manager
Job status: Exempt-salaried
Location: Billings, MT

Unique opportunity for a senior civil engineer who wants to grow their own legacy by starting, building, and growing a highway and transportation practice group of their very own.

THE ROLE

The Transportation Practice Leader will lead the launch, buildout, and growth of a new transportation engineering practice out of our Billings, MT office with the autonomy to shape its direction, build the team, and establish a strong market presence. These responsibilities include:

  • Define and lead the growth strategy for the transportation practice, including service offerings, target markets, and team buildout.
  • Establish technical standards, QA/QC protocols, and best practices for the discipline.
  • Partner with firm leadership to shape workload, revenue growth, and resource planning as the practice scales.
  • Lead business development efforts for the discipline, including client pursuit strategy, proposal development, and relationship expansion.
  • Serve as a visible market leader and technical representative for the discipline in the region.
  • Serve as the technical authority for the discipline locally, ensuring engineering excellence, regulatory compliance, and rigorous QA/QC standards across all projects.
  • Lead and manage the complete project lifecycle, driving schedule performance, cost control, and high‑quality outcomes.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to direct reports, fostering a culture of growth and excellence.
  • Establish a visible and credible transportation presence in the local market.
  • Deliver high-quality projects that reinforce technical excellence and trust.
TOTAL REWARDS

As an employee-owned firm, we offer a total rewards package designed to support your health, growth, and long-term financial success—while ensuring you share in the value you help create.

  • Up to $150,000 base pay (DOE)
  • Annual bonuses because your contributions matter

  • Six paid company holidays
  • Two floating personal holidays for events that are important in your life
  • 401(k) matching program
  • AD&D Insurance, Short/Long Term Disability, and Life Insurance paid by the company
  • Flexible work schedule arrangements

Our longstanding and trusted engineering legacy has helped ensure safety, security, and growth for our employee-owners. Our people-first culture and collaborative team are what drive our success as a top 500 engineering firm and have earned us a spot on Zweig's list of "Best Places to Work."
