Job description

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Software Developer Section Supervisor. Responsible for supervising development staff that support applications based upon a variety of technologies, including Java and .NET applications, AASHTOWare, Planisware, Jasper reporting tools, cloud-based services, and RDBMS based upon Oracle and SQL Server as well as Snowflake data warehouse. This section relies upon Jira for day-to-day operations, and ISD has implemented the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This position reports to the Software & Data Systems Bureau Chief. This position is required to work in the Helena, MT office at least 3 days a week. Applications will be reviewed weekly and interviews will be scheduled as applications are reviewed.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in information technology management, business management, computer science or information systems.

4 years of work experience in one or a combination of the following: software development, web development, GIS development, database administration or related field.

2 years of experience managing any combination of software and/or web developers, GIS professionals, database administrators, or data warehouse/data analytics staff. 

Alternative combinations of related experience and education may be considered. Such as 8 years related experience and 2 years of supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Requires knowledge of a programming language such as Java, Agile Development; or knowledge of the ServiceNow platform, or ESRI technology and GIS solutions; or database platforms such as Oracle or SQL Server database environments; or web development tools and solutions. 

Proficient in contract, vendor, and procurement management.

Knowledge of industry best practices and innovative technologies.
