What is a destination manager?

A Destination Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and coordinating tourism activities, services, and experiences in a specific location or destination. Their role typically involves developing tourism strategies, managing relationships with local businesses and stakeholders, and ensuring visitors have a positive experience. They may also handle marketing, event planning, and quality control to promote the destination and support sustainable tourism. Destination Managers work with travel agencies, tour operators, and government agencies to enhance the appeal and accessibility of the area.

Job description

At Ko-Kwel Casino Resort, we know the best experiences start with a warm welcome. Whether you're arriving for a relaxing getaway or clocking in for your shift. Here, hospitality is personal, teamwork is real, and people genuinely look out for one another. When you join our team, you're stepping into a workplace where you can learn, grow, and take pride in creating memorable moments across the entire property. We bring energy, heart, and professionalism to everything we do, by building not only unforgettable guest experiences, but a workplace we're proud to call our own.
Be part of a team that's shaping one of the premier destinations for gaming and hospitality. A place where guests and team members alike feel right at home on Oregon's beautiful southern coast and beyond.
Why this job matters
A great hotel stay often starts long before a guest walks through the door. The Sales Manager helps bring people to Ko-Kwel Casino Resort Medford by building relationships with businesses, government agencies, healthcare organizations, sports groups, tour operators, and other travel partners. Those connections create overnight stays, group visits, and new reasons for guests to experience everything the resort has to offer.
This role combines relationship building, creative problem solving, and a strong understanding of hotel sales. Working closely with hotel operations and other resort departments, the Sales Manager turns opportunities into well-planned guest experiences while helping the hotel grow its occupancy, room revenue, and presence in the Medford market. The position also leads and supports one full-time Sales Coordinator.
What you bring to the table
  • Make sure the space stays safe, clean, and friendly for both guests and the rest of the team; speak up and report any safety concerns to the Safety Committee.
  • Develop and execute an annual sales plan focused on increasing hotel occupancy, room revenue, ADR, and market share.
  • Prospect for new business through outside sales calls, networking, community involvement, trade shows, client visits, and industry events.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate accounts, government agencies, healthcare organizations, sports teams, tour operators, and other key market segments.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities while maintaining and expanding existing client relationships.
  • Develop creative sales strategies and promotional opportunities to generate overnight stays and group business.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and execute hotel group contracts, meeting agreements, and proposals that support operational and financial objectives.
  • Coordinate group room blocks and meeting space reservations to ensure exceptional guest experiences and seamless operational execution.
  • Partner with Hotel Operations, Food & Beverage, Marketing, Facilities, and other departments to successfully plan and execute group business.
  • Monitor sales performance, maintain an active sales pipeline, and prepare forecasts, production reports, and market analysis for leadership.
  • Maintain accurate client records, sales activity, and reporting within company systems.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and revenue forecasts while ensuring responsible financial stewardship.
  • Provide direct leadership, coaching, and performance management for one full-time Sales Coordinator.
  • Support and encourage the development, training, and advancement of Tribal member employees in alignment with Ko-Kwel Casino Resort Tribal Employment Preference policies.
  • Jump in where needed to support the team and keep things running smoothly. (Other duties as assigned)
Must-haves, nice-to-haves, and maybe some bonus points
  • Friendly and approachable attitude that helps guests (and the team) feel welcome and cared for every day.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality Management, Marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years of successful hotel sales experience with a proven track record of increasing room revenue.
  • Experience developing new business through prospecting, relationship building, and outside sales.
  • Experience negotiating contracts, preparing proposals, budgeting, and sales forecasting.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Agilysys, Infor HMS, Delphi, or similar hotel sales and property management systems preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Casino resort experience is a plus.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Comfortable communicating clearly and positively with both guests and teammates.
Physical stuff to know
We've included the typical physical parts of the job here. If you need an accommodation to do the work, just let us know-we're here to support you. This position includes a mix of office work, client meetings, property tours, community events, and travel within the market. Flexibility is important, since business needs may occasionally require evening, weekend, or holiday work. Team members may stand and walk for extended periods, frequently sit, and regularly use their hands to operate office equipment. The role also requires clear communication, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced hospitality environment. This is a quick summary of the main duties and requirements-it might not cover everything you could be asked to do.
Ko-Kwel Casino Resort is owned by the Coquille Indian Tribe. Team members are eligible for a comprehensive health care benefit, generous time off policy, 401-K retirement with 4% company match and other benefits.
