Job description

Design Engineer
Location: 203A Log Canoe Circle, Stevensville, MD 21666-2128
Work Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
Salary Range: $70,000 - $110,000/yr
Hydrasearch is seeking a Design Engineer to join our team in Stevensville, MD. In this role, you will be the technical lead for our recreational marine product lines. You will bridge the gap between mechanical design and process engineering-translating high-level requirements into manufacturable solutions, defining production methods (routers and BOMs), and supporting the hands-on assembly of maritime hardware. Operating within an AS9100-certified environment, you will develop the disciplined documentation and configuration control skills essential for a high-level engineering career.
At Hydrasearch, we value the contributions of our Military Veterans and proudly employ our nation's heroes. Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do:
  • Product Development: Support the design of mechanical components and assemblies; translate product requirements into clear technical documentation and 3D models.
  • Manufacturing Definition: Maintain the "Product DNA," including Items, BOMs, Routers, and Work Instructions. Define the sequences and methods required for stable production.
  • Engineering Change Management: Execute ECR/ECO processes to support product improvements and ensure all technical data remains current and accurate.
  • Operations Support: Provide real-time troubleshooting on the production floor for issues related to materials, tolerances, or assembly.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate and implement manufacturing enhancements focused on quality, efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Supply Chain Liaison: Support technical communication with suppliers regarding components or specialized outside processes.
  • Documentation & Configuration Control: Create and maintain engineering drawings using GD&T (ASME Y14.5) standards. Manage design data within PDM systems to ensure strict version control. Define inspection requirements and critical features to ensure compliance with our AS9100 Quality Management System.

What We're Looking For:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of engineering experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and drawing creation; strong fundamentals in mechanical design and statics.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain).
  • Experience with machined, cast, or forged metal components.
  • Familiarity with marine propulsion hardware (rudders, struts, shafts, or couplings).
  • Hands-on experience defining manufacturing routers or work instructions.
  • Exposure to AS9100 or ISO 9001 environments.

What We Offer:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family
  • Competitive salary
  • Bonus programs
  • 401K retirement plan
  • Training opportunities
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Paid vacation, PTO, and holidays
  • Gym reimbursements, and more!
