Job Purpose

Responsible for battery design and engineering analyses on molten salt batteries. Analyses includes conceptualand detailed design, trade-off studies, estimates, and calculations for energy storage and power conversiondevices. Activities include prototype fabrication, test, and evaluation. The selected engineer will work with othermembers of the engineering department to create design solutions that meet customer requirements and companyobjectives. The selected engineer will also work with the Quality and Manufacturing functions to ensure productsare delivered to the highest possible standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Designs components or major portions of a battery system to develop or improve products and facilitatemanufacturing operations.
  • Supervisory responsibilities will include the management of technicians and assemblers to accomplishprogram objectives, such as the build and test of prototype hardware and batteries.
  • Performs research, design, and development in such areas as mechanical, chemical, electrical, and otherrelated engineering design functions.
  • Develops specifications for selecting components and equipment to use. Utilizing computer-aided designequipment, develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to presentdesign proposal.
  • Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment,interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements andcost.
  • Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development.
  • Makes layouts of assemblies and details parts and also responsible for prototype fabrication.
  • The successful candidate will also prepare and present technical design and data at program reviewmeetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in either Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Working knowledge of Solid Works and AutoCad
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project is required.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of ANSYS is a plus.
  • Analysis software (COSMOSM or ProMechanica) is a plus
  • Planning, analytical, assertive, and ability to interact with other groups
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities, military, industry, and federal standards.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification is a plus.
