How much do design checker jobs pay per hour?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design checker, and why are they important?
What is a design checker?
What are some common challenges design checkers face when reviewing complex engineering drawings?
What is the difference between Design Checker vs Draftsman?
| Aspect | Design Checker | Draftsman |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically requires certifications in design or drafting software, sometimes a technical diploma | Usually holds a diploma or certificate in drafting or technical drawing |
| Work Environment | Works in design firms, architectural or engineering offices, reviewing plans | Works in drafting studios, construction sites, creating detailed technical drawings |
| Industry Usage | Commonly employed in architecture, engineering, and construction industries | Primarily used in construction, manufacturing, and architectural firms |
The main difference is that a Design Checker reviews and verifies design plans for accuracy and compliance, while a Draftsman creates detailed technical drawings based on specifications. Both roles require technical skills, but the Design Checker focuses on quality control, whereas the Draftsman focuses on producing detailed drawings.
What does a design checker do?
As a design checker, you are responsible for examining the engineering drawings of parts, assemblies, and installations to ensure accuracy and completeness. You have interpretation duties to detect any errors or discrepancies within these 3D design documents. Your responsibilities require you to annotate any changes that need to be made and communicate with others how to pursue a better design for manufacturability. You consult for angles, dimensions, bend allowances, and tolerances to avoid mistakes during and after development. You also determine material and tool selection using your knowledge of drafting and manufacturing methods.
