Job description

Our Opportunity:

Chewy is dedicated to being the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents and partners, everywhere. On the Product Design and Research team, we embrace this vision (and our pets!). We craft experiences that delight customers, veterinarians, and businesses that support them in keeping their pets happy and healthy. As a team of hard-working, collaborative, and fun-loving designers, researchers, and builders, we’re looking for creative and driven talent to join the pack.

We are looking for an Associate Director, Product Design – Pharmacy, to lead our teams focused on Rx fulfillment, medication compounding, and 3rd-party veterinary digital tools. Based in either our Bellevue, WA or Boston, MA offices. You will guide the evolution of Chewy’s industry-leading prescription-fulfillment tools and build tools to support our relationship with vets nationwide. You will work closely with partners across health and retail to speed prescription delivery and accuracy, helping vets get the right medication into the hands of pet parents.

What You’ll Do:

Product & Design Strategy

  • Transform customer and business objectives into compelling, purposeful, and feasible products.

  • Lead innovative, systems-level thinking across pharmacy systems, ensuring speed and accuracy for pharmacists, vets, and the care of pets.

  • Champion customer-centered improvements to our digital tools, connecting user insights to experience strategy.

Execution & Delivery

  • Lead the full design process - from discovery and ideation to flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes.

  • Set a high bar for design quality and ensure it gets into users’ hands.

  • Maintain a bias for action and prioritize across multiple initiatives.

Team Leadership & Growth

  • Lead and develop a high-performing design team, ensuring they are engaged, effective, and continuously growing.

  • Champion Chewy’s culture and principles, setting new standards for operational and executional excellence.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with product managers, developers, content strategists, user researchers, and fellow designers.

  • Clearly articulate and present design thinking, process, and decisions to a wide range of Team Members, including senior leadership and C-suite executives.

What You'll Need:

Design Experience & Expertise

  • 10+ years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role.

  • Advanced proficiency in core design, including interaction design, information architecture, and user interface design.

  • Consistently crafting high-quality digital products that deliver measurable results, supported by a strong portfolio or case studies.

Leadership & Team Management

  • 4+ years of experience managing multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, content strategists, and product designers.

  • Ability to evaluate both customer and business impact of design decisions across product areas.

  • Ability to lead design for multiple tools and large-scale initiatives involving multiple business groups

Communication & Collaboration

  • Strong communication, presentation, and social skills.

  • Ability to clearly articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences and Team Members at all levels.

Education & Work Environment

  • Bachelor's degree in design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field—or equivalent professional experience in the design industry.

  • Ability to travel quarterly as needed; role requires regular presence in a local office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading and building multiple teams of 8+ including leading other managers.

  • Background in e-commerce, retail brands, or subscription services with an understanding of customer behavior and business goals in those contexts.

Work Arrangement:

  • Hybrid Model: 3-4 days in hub location per week

  • Remote: This role is NOT a remote role.

The base salary range for this role is $166,000 - $265,000.00.
  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
