The Role

GM Defense IT is seeking a Staff System Analyst to lead complex business and technology initiatives supporting key areas of the business including Manufacturing, Customer Care & Aftersales, SAP, and Vehicle Engineering. This role will be aligned based on candidate background, capability, and business need. System Analysts work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into functional and technical requirements and product backlogs for software engineering teams. They serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on respective teams, while coaching and mentoring to develop team capabilities. They will be expected to lead the most complex projects while delivering high quality projects on time. Additionally, you will be expected to share best practices and lessons learned both within your team and across cross-functional team. They research and evaluate various software and hardware options to determine the most suitable technology solutions for the organization's needs. They create detailed system design specifications, including data models, process flows, integration with upstream and downstream systems, and user interfaces, to guide the software engineering team. They work closely with software and system engineers to ensure that the system is developed or implemented according to the specified requirements. They design and execute testing protocols to validate system performance, reliability, compliance with standards, additional quality attributes and customer requirements.
What You'll Do
  • Lead major cross-functional initiatives that support GM Defense business and engineering priorities.
  • Partner with business, engineering, manufacturing, SAP, supply chain, and IT stakeholders to define needs, evaluate options, and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Partner with IT security leadership, legal, and export compliance, to support cleared and controlled system solutions and help maintain secure, compliant environments.
  • Analyze complex business processes and system requirements and translate them into actionable solution designs
  • Drive improvements to business processes, system capabilities, data flows, and operational methods.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert within assigned domain areas and provide guidance to project teams and business leaders.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, compliance considerations, and integration impacts across initiatives.
  • Support delivery of solutions that meet GM standards while also addressing government defense and other government-regulated program contract requirements.
  • Influence adoption of new processes, tools, and ways of working across multiple stakeholder groups.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years as a systems analyst, business systems analyst, related IT/business transformation role, IT software applications, requirements definition, process definition, testing, and IT Strategy and roadmap development.
  • Experience in regulated or government-contract environments (defense, aerospace, or other regulated industries)
  • Experience leading large, complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders and dependencies.
  • Proven leadership experience in taking charge to drive completion of work.
  • Experience gathering requirements, conducting data gathering and analysis to understand business strategy requirements, driving to a solution design, and drive execution.
  • Demonstrated experience working across business and technical teams to implement system or process improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence decisions and gain alignment.
  • Ability to work independently with broad decision-making latitude in a fast-paced, complex environment.
  • Ability to coach less experienced team members

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Understanding of government data classifications and handling requirements, including concepts such as CUI, ITAR, EAR, export controls, and classified program sensitivities.
  • Knowledge of government cybersecurity and control frameworks such as CMMC, DFARS, NIST SP 800-171, or NIST 800-53.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following domains:
    • Manufacturing systems and operations
    • Customer Care and Aftersales / warehouse processes.
    • SAP-enabled business processes and integrations.
    • Vehicle engineering or product development environments.
    • Global Purchasing and Supply Chain.
  • Experience working in highly controlled environments with security, compliance, or regulatory constraints.
  • Serve as subject matter expert related to interface problem identification, triage, and resolution of complex inquiries.
  • Experience leading efforts that require coordination across enterprise teams, suppliers, and external partners.
