What are Defence Sales?

Defence Sales refers to the business of selling military equipment, technology, and services to governments or authorized organizations for defense purposes. Professionals in this field facilitate transactions between defense manufacturers and buyers, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and export controls. Defence Sales roles often involve contract negotiation, relationship management, and a thorough understanding of both the products and the geopolitical landscape. The job can include both domestic and international sales, requiring a strong awareness of security protocols and ethical considerations.

What are some common challenges faced in Defence Sales and how can new hires prepare to overcome them?

In Defence Sales, professionals often encounter challenges such as navigating complex procurement processes, adhering to strict compliance requirements, and building trust with governmental clients. New hires should be prepared to work within lengthy sales cycles and collaborate closely with legal, technical, and project management teams to ensure proposals meet all regulatory standards. Developing a strong understanding of defense industry regulations and effective communication skills will help overcome these hurdles and build lasting client relationships.

Both roles require similar credentials and operate within the defense industry, but their target clients and environments may differ slightly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Defence Sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Defence Sales, you need a strong background in sales strategy, knowledge of defense industry regulations, and often a relevant degree such as business, engineering, or international relations. Familiarity with CRM software, defense procurement processes, and compliance certifications like ITAR are typically required. Exceptional negotiation, relationship-building, and cross-cultural communication skills set top performers apart in this field. These skills are crucial for building trust with clients, navigating complex sales cycles, and ensuring compliance in a highly regulated, competitive environment.

Job description

Job Description
Crossbow is a fast-growing cybersecurity company making digital defence smarter, sharper, and anything but boring. From expert consulting to next-gen security products, we help businesses stay one step ahead of cyber threats without the complexity. We turn security challenges into practical solutions that actually work in the real world.
The Role:
As an SDR, you will be the frontline of our growth engine, responsible for identifying, engaging, and qualifying high-value prospects. Your role is to tackle the toughest part of the sales cycle - cutting through the noise, creating interest, and opening doors that others cannot.
We are not looking for someone to simply follow up on leads - we are looking for driven, high-energy hunters who thrive on persistence, conversations, and turning cold outreach into real opportunities to join our sales team.
What You Will Do (The Grind)
  • High-Volume Outreach: Execute 50-70 activities per day (calls, personalized emails, and LinkedIn touches) to reach key decision-makers.
  • Lead Qualification: Move prospects through our discovery process using [e.g., BANT or MEDDPICC - Metrics, Economic Buyer, Decision Criteria, Decision Process, Paper Process, Identify Pain, Champion, and Competition] frameworks.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain a clean CRM (ZOHO). If it's not in the CRM, it didn't happen.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Develop deep expertise in our product and the Cyber / Information Security landscape to handle objections with ease.
  • Collaboration: Partner with Account Executives to ensure a smooth transition of qualified opportunities.

The Tech Stack
You will be equipped with: LinkedIn Sales Navigator (tools we use for lead generation and hunting activities).
Requirements
  • Who You Are (No Excuses)
    • Relentless: You view "No" as a request for more information. You have thick skin and a short memory for rejection.
    • Competitive: You hate losing more than you love winning. You want to be at the top of the leaderboard every month.
    • Coachable: You take feedback aggressively and implement it immediately.
    • Articulate: You can simplify complex software concepts into a "Why you should care" pitch in under 30 seconds.
    • Experience: 1- 2 years of sales experience. We value drive and "grit" over a long resume.

Benefits
Perks & Benefits
  • Health: Health and dental insurance
  • Retirement: 401(k)
  • Time Off: 10 holidays and 12 PTO per calendar year accrued in accordance with Company policy
  • Growth: A clear, performance-based roadmap to an Account Executive (AE) role within 18-24 months.

Statutory Disclosures
  • At-Will Employment: Employment with Crossbow is "at-will," meaning either the employee or the company may terminate the relationship at any time, with or without cause.
  • EEO Statement: Crossbow is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
  • Pay Transparency and clear path for growth: Transparent career progression, professional development, and promotion opportunities.
