Job description

**Position Summary

**

We are seeking an experienced Senior Field Service Technician to provide advanced technical support for our client's subsea thrusters, actuators, and marine propulsion systems. This position serves as the primary field representative for troubleshooting complex customer issues, performing field upgrades, conducting technical training, and supporting product reliability improvements.

The Senior Field Service Technician will travel domestically and internationally to customer sites to diagnose and resolve critical equipment issues that cannot be practically addressed through factory return and repair. This role requires extensive expertise in electromechanical systems, root-cause investigation, customer support, and technical problem solving.

When not traveling, the Senior Field Service Technician will work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Service teams to maintain product expertise, support documentation improvements, assist with failure analysis, and provide feedback that improves product reliability and manufacturability.

Travel is expected to be approximately 50% of the time.

**Essential Responsibilities

**

**Field Technical Support

**

  • Travel to customer locations worldwide to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues with products.

  • Diagnose electrical, electronic, software, mechanical, and system-level failures in fielded equipment.

  • Perform root cause investigations and develop corrective action recommendations.

  • Conduct detailed inspections and assessments of customer equipment.

  • Execute field modifications, engineering change implementations, product upgrades, and retrofit activities.

  • Document findings, repairs, and recommendations through detailed service reports.

  • Serve as the primary technical representative during critical customer support events.

**Customer Training & Technical Support

**

  • Provide hands-on technical training to customer maintenance personnel and operators.

  • Develop customer competency in inspection, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures.

  • Support both on-site and factory-based customer training activities.

  • Assist customers in interpreting technical documentation and maintenance requirements.

  • Build strong working relationships with customer engineering and maintenance teams.

**Product Diagnostics & Controls

**

  • Troubleshoot brushless DC motors, motor controllers, power electronics, sensors, and related subsystems.

  • Utilize laptops, software utilities, communication interfaces, and diagnostic tools to configure, monitor, and troubleshoot motor controllers and embedded systems.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and engineering documentation.

  • Utilize oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and other diagnostic equipment to isolate failures.

**Continuous Improvement & Internal Support

**

  • Participate in product teardown, failure analysis, and corrective action investigations.

  • Provide field feedback to Engineering, Quality, and Production teams regarding reliability, corrosion protection, assembly practices, serviceability, and product performance.

  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, assembly methods, documentation, and quality standards based on field experience.

  • Maintain hands-on involvement with production, testing, and engineering activities to remain proficient on current and future product lines.

  • Support development and revision of service manuals, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, and training materials.

**Required Qualifications

**

  • 8–10 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing complex electromechanical systems.

  • Strong knowledge of:

  • Ability to troubleshoot down to component and subsystem level.

  • Experience using diagnostic software and computer-based control interfaces.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Strong written communication and technical reporting skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in customer-facing environments.

  • Valid passport or ability to obtain one.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 50% of the time.

**Preferred Qualifications

**

  • Experience with subsea systems, marine propulsion systems, ROVs, AUVs, underwater robotics, defense systems, or oceanographic equipment.

  • Military electronics, naval engineering, or marine technical experience.

  • Experience performing field support for mission-critical equipment.

  • Familiarity with pressure-compensated subsea equipment.

  • Experience conducting technical training for customers.

  • Experience supporting engineering root cause investigations and reliability improvement initiatives.

  • IPC certification or familiarity with electronic assembly workmanship standards.
