Deer are hoofed, ruminant mammals belonging to the family Cervidae. They are characterized by their slender bodies, long legs, and, in most species, the presence of antlers on the males, which are shed and regrown annually. Deer play important roles in their ecosystems, both as prey for predators and as grazers that shape the vegetation.
