Job description

Metal Deck InstallerCompany Overview

Shelby Erectors, Inc. is one of Florida’s leading bridge construction specialty contractors, known for building high-quality structures and tight-knit crews. We build more than bridges – we build teams that take pride in tough work done safely and done right.

We invest in our people through hands-on training, advanced technology, and clear standards for growth and advancement. If you want to be part of a crew that looks out for each other and holds a high bar for craftsmanship, this is where you can build a long-term career.

The Opportunity

As a Metal Deck Installer, you will play a key role in building bridge decks across multiple jobsites in Florida. You will work on a small, tight-knit crew installing corrugated metal deck pans that form the foundation for concrete bridge decks.

This is a physically demanding, outdoor role where you will travel between jobsites, work at heights, and handle heavy materials. In return, you’ll gain specialized bridge construction skills, clear pathways to increased pay through CORE assessment and SIP modules, and the satisfaction of seeing your work become part of Florida’s critical infrastructure.

What You'll Do
  • Install corrugated metal deck pans for bridge construction as part of a 2–3 person crew.
  • Weld or mechanically fasten angle iron to bridge beams and securely set metal deck pans to create the deck/form system.
  • Measure, fit, and align deck pans accurately to meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Travel between active jobsites and work safely in fast-paced construction environments and all weather conditions.
  • Take responsibility for your own safety and your crew’s safety while following established jobsite safety practices.
What Success Looks Like
  • Within your first 3–6 months, you reliably install deck pans to spec with minimal rework and demonstrate consistent, safe work at heights.
  • You are recognized by your crew and foreman for dependable attendance, strong work ethic, and willingness to take on challenging tasks.
  • You contribute to a smooth-running crew by communicating clearly, watching out for hazards, and maintaining a clean, organized work area.
  • Within your first year, you build enough skill and knowledge to take on more complex tasks and position yourself for higher pay through CORE assessment and SIP training modules.
What We're Looking For
  • Experience in active construction environments, preferably with rebar field work or similar heavy civil trades.
  • Comfort working at heights and the physical ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 75 lbs throughout the day.
  • Knowledge of basic construction tools, equipment, and materials, plus the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S., with reliable transportation, strong safety mindset, and willingness to work overtime, including some nights and weekends.
Compensation and Benefits
  • $21.50 - $26.50 per hour, based on experience (pay at $25+ per hour requires passing CORE assessment and SIP modules).
  • Health benefits available after 90 days of employment.
  • 401(k) retirement plan eligibility after one year.
  • Full-time field role with travel to multiple jobsites and overtime opportunities.
How to Apply

If you’re a hardworking, safety-focused installer ready to grow your skills and build bridges across Florida, apply today with your resume or work history. Shelby Erectors is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes all qualified applicants.
