Job description

Store Support Assistant is located within a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) commissary. This is a dual-purpose position; performing administrative duties approximately 60% of the time, and performs the duties of a Store Associate approximately 40% of the time. The incumbent works independently or as part of a team and may be rotated throughout the store, performing duties in assigned departments as needed.Qualifications:You must meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualifications for series 1101 and additional requirements by the announcement closing date. Your resume (and/or transcript if necessary) must clearly show that you have the qualifications described below. You can use experience, education, superior academic achievement, or a combination of experience and education to qualify. When using education to meet qualifications you must submit transcripts. See Required Documents for more information.
Experience: One (1) year of demonstrated knowledge of retail procurement and distribution methods; principles, procedures, and techniques of retail food merchandising and retail food store management; and developments in commercial retail food store items, equipment, and practices (specialized experience) equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level. Experience can be under other Federal service pay systems, private sector, or military. Examples of qualifying experience include:
  • Performed payroll, DTS, correspondence, filing, and personnel support tasks.
  • Maintained supply and property records and processed procurement and disposition actions.
  • Conduct inventories, corrected supply data errors, and placed online supply orders.
  • Supported store operations through cashiering, stocking, merchandising, and customer service.
  • Safety, sanitation, and security procedures while operating office and store equipment.

Education: Four (4) years of education above high school can also be used to qualify in lieu of specialized experience. Education must be from a college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
OR
Combination of experience and education. To calculate the combination, divide your total months of experience by 12, then divide your graduate level semester hours by the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study or 18 and add the two percentages. If the total is 100%, you meet the minimum qualifications through a combination of experience and education.
You will receive credit for all relevant qualifying experience (paid and unpaid), including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Additional Requirements that must be met by the closing date:
  • Physical requirements: (1) Stand, stoop, kneel, bend and climb for prolonged periods. (2) Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and handling of commissary products weighing up to forty (40) pounds without assistance; heavier products are moved with assistance from other workers or by using material-handling equipment. (3) Operates a variety of office equipment as well as store floor equipment. You will attest to your ability to perform these physical requirements in the Questionnaire.
  • Time after competitive appointment. Current federal civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since being selected for a non-temporary appointment from a competitive examination register of eligibles (an announcement opened to the public) or under a direct hire authority.
