We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Classroom Teacher to join our team. As a Classroom Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment for students. You will develop and implement lesson plans, assess student progress, and provide guidance and support to help students reach their full potential.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
(1) Teacher of the Deaf or Special Education Certification, and experience
(2) Master's degree in Deaf Education, and childhood education preferred
(3) Eligibility for NYS certification as a Teacher of the Deaf; Special Needs and
(4) The ability to successfully complete a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at the proficiency level defined for each job position as determined by SMSD as per the timelines in the teacher's contract
NOTE: The School may also require employees in this classification to complete successful training in behavior management programs including but not limited to TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) which will be provided by St. Mary's School for the Deaf.
โ€ข Plans and prepares lessons and other instructional materials following curriculum guidelines;
โ€ข Instructs students in various subjects using ASL and English
โ€ข Confers with parents, testing specialists, and other administrators to develop individual educational plans for students;
โ€ข Encourages students to participate in class discussions and activities;
โ€ข Prepares, administers, and scores academic tests and records results;
โ€ข Meets and confers with parents and with supervisor to discuss students' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements;
โ€ข Assists in selecting appropriate textbooks and learning materials;
โ€ข Participates in curriculum development;
โ€ข Maintains updated lesson plans as prescribed by the curriculum;
โ€ข Intercedes in emergency situations as required;
โ€ข Attends departmental and faculty meetings;
โ€ข Maintains order in the classroom;
โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned.

All benefits are subject to the respective collective bargaining agreements and policies of St. Mary's School for the Deaf.
Salary is based on Teaching Experience and NYS Certification - based on current Teacher's contract
