Job description

Hospitalist Medicine Fellowship

Deaconess Hospital offers a one-year fellowship in hospitalist medicine. Ideal candidates are family physicians who wish to further their knowledge of inpatient medicine and procedural skills needed to care for acutely ill inpatients, and internists who have been away from inpatient medicine and wish to refresh their knowledge and skills. Deaconess incorporates didactic lectures with supervised patient care consistent with the guidelines recommended by the Society of Hospital Medicine. As a tertiary regional referral center serving nearly 900,000 people in three states, Deaconess offers a diverse exposure to pathology and severity of illness. Primary teaching and supervision is provided by the Deaconess Care Group, Deaconess' 53+ physician hospitalist group which covers our two state-of-the-art acute care hospitals and specialty heart hospital 24/7/365. Our open ICU model offers ample experience in critical care and the hospitalist service offers a nice balance of primary admitting and consultative roles. Administratively, the fellowship is associated with our family medicine residency which supports 18 residents in our three-year training program. Resident and medical student supervision and teaching is incorporated into fellowship responsibilities to maximize the learning environment of our teaching hospital. One-on-one rotations with highly skilled and engaged specialists like pulmonary/critical care, nephrology, cardiology, infectious disease and others is a major strength of our fellowship program. Employment opportunities exist with our hospitalist group for successful candidates and compensation is competitive with other PGY 4 fellowships.
