Position Description
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and supporting bid development for heavy civil construction projects, including concrete paving, underground utilities, earthwork, wall structures, and infrastructure work. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, this role analyzes plans and specifications, develops detailed pricing, coordinates subcontractor and supplier quotes, and supports the successful transition from estimating to project execution.
Working closely with project managers, superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors, the Estimator helps ensure competitive bids, accurate project budgets, and strong collaboration between estimating and operations teams while contributing to continuous improvement in estimating processes.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience.
  • Strong understanding of heavy civil scopes including paving, utilities, and earthwork.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and bid documents
  • Experience with estimating platforms such as HCSS HeavyBid or similar software.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, takeoff tools, and construction documentation.
  • Ability to analyze labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs.
  • Strong communication skills working with PMs, engineers, and vendors.
  • Ability to support estimating strategy development and process improvements.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
