Personal Injury Attorney

Price Benowitz LLP

Columbia, SC • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Company Overview
Price Benowitz LLP is a mid-sized law firm headquartered in Washington, DC, with attorneys and offices throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, and South Carolina. Our practice areas include Personal Injury, Criminal Defense, Family Law, Medical Malpractice, Trusts & Estates, and more.
Guided by our core values of Passion, Integrity, and Excellence, we are committed to providing exceptional representation to our clients while creating opportunities for ambitious attorneys to build successful, highly visible practices.
Position Overview
Price Benowitz LLP is seeking an experienced Personal Injury Attorney to help expand our Personal Injury practice in Columbia, South Carolina.
This opportunity is designed for a mid-level or more experienced attorney with at least five years of relevant experience who is ready for the next stage of their career. We are particularly interested in attorneys who either:
  • Have the entrepreneurial drive to build and establish a Personal Injury practice in the Columbia market with the resources and support of an established firm, or
  • Have already developed a practice, reputation, or book of business and are looking for a platform to take that practice to the next level.

This is not simply a traditional associate position. We are looking for an attorney who wants to be an active part of growing a practice, building a presence in the community, developing business, and establishing themselves as a recognized Personal Injury attorney in the South Carolina market.
The firm can provide the infrastructure, marketing resources, operational support, and established platform while giving the right attorney the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of the growth of the practice.
Responsibilities
  • Manage Personal Injury matters from initial intake through settlement, litigation, and trial as appropriate.
  • Develop case strategy and maintain primary responsibility for an active caseload.
  • Conduct and defend depositions, attend hearings and mediations, negotiate settlements, and prepare matters for trial.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, settlement demands, and other litigation documents.
  • Maintain consistent and meaningful communication with clients throughout the life of their cases.
  • Evaluate potential cases and make sound decisions regarding case strategy, value, and resolution.
  • Collaborate with the firm's attorneys, paralegals, investigators, experts, and other professional staff.
  • Develop and execute strategies for growing the firm's Personal Injury presence in Columbia and surrounding South Carolina markets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with attorneys, community leaders, referral partners, and other professional contacts.
  • Participate in networking, community engagement, educational opportunities, and other business-development initiatives.
  • Work with the firm's marketing resources to develop the attorney's professional profile and expand visibility in the market.
  • Identify opportunities for new business, referrals, and strategic relationships.
  • Represent Price Benowitz LLP professionally within the South Carolina legal and business communities.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar.
  • 5+ years of legal experience, with substantial experience handling Personal Injury matters strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage cases and client relationships.
  • Meaningful litigation experience, including discovery, depositions, hearings, mediation, negotiation, and trial preparation.
  • Strong legal writing, advocacy, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to independently develop case strategy.
  • Strong client-service orientation and ability to develop long-term professional relationships.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and genuine interest in practice development and business generation.
  • Desire to develop a recognizable professional presence in the Columbia/South Carolina legal market.
  • Existing referral relationships, community connections, professional network, or book of business are highly valued but not required for the right candidate with demonstrated business-development potential.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is an experienced attorney who is thinking beyond simply managing a caseload.
You may be an attorney at an established firm who has developed strong Personal Injury skills but wants greater autonomy, visibility, and an opportunity to build something of your own. You may already have an established practice or referral network but want the resources, infrastructure, marketing capabilities, and support of a larger firm to accelerate your growth.
Alternatively, you may have reached the point where you have considered going out on your own, but would prefer to build a practice with the backing of an established law firm rather than starting entirely from scratch.
We are looking for someone who sees business development, professional visibility, community involvement, and relationship building as part of being a successful attorney. The right person will have the ambition to become a recognized leader in the Columbia Personal Injury market while delivering outstanding results and service to clients.
Why Price Benowitz LLP?
This position offers a unique opportunity to combine the entrepreneurial aspects of building a practice with the resources and infrastructure of an established law firm.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
  • Play a significant role in expanding our Personal Injury presence in South Carolina.
  • Develop their own professional brand and market visibility.
  • Leverage the firm's marketing, operational, administrative, and legal resources.
  • Build referral relationships and develop new sources of business.
  • Exercise meaningful autonomy and ownership over practice growth.
  • Create a long-term professional opportunity tied to the success and expansion of the practice.

If you are an experienced Personal Injury attorney who wants more than your next associate position, and you are excited by the opportunity to build, grow, and lead a practice; we would like to hear from you.
