Property Coordinator
FLSA Status:
Hourly; non-exempt
Salary Range: $24 - $28 / hour (projected hours are 40 hr/wk April-September and 30 hr/wk October-March)
Location: Located in Duxbury, MA, this role requires a flexible schedule that includes weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary.
Schedule: Year-round, starting Fall 2026
About the Organization
The Duxbury Beach Reservation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation, owns approximately 4.5 miles of Duxbury Beach, a 7.5-mile long barrier beach that extends from Marshfield in the north to Gurnet Point and Saquish in the south. The Reservation's mission is to preserve Duxbury Beach to safeguard the adjacent bays and mainland, protect wildlife and vegetation while welcoming the public to enjoy.
Position Summary
The Property Coordinator manages the physical assets, infrastructure, and active habitat maintenance of Duxbury Beach Reservation. Working across several organization programs, focused on landform resilience, ecological protection, beach access, and operations, this role combines facilities and vehicle management and coordination and oversight of on-site contractors with hands-on, on-the-ground execution of coastal stewardship tasks-including manual invasive species removal, dune vegetation monitoring/planting, and beach access maintenance.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • On-the-Ground Ecological & Dune Maintenance: Execute in-field habitat stewardship under protocols established by the Coastal Ecology Program, including manual removal/treatment of invasive plant species, dune vegetation planting, and routine physical monitoring of dune nourishment sites and vegetation plots. Work with the Outreach Coordinator to support volunteer events for plantings, invasive removal, clean-ups, and other on-site volunteer projects.
  • Facility & Asset Maintenance: Manage routine maintenance, inventory, utilities, and winterization/opening procedures for the High Pines building, DBP structures, and other DBR facilities. This includes working with existing and new vendors and volunteers to accomplish tasks.
  • Contractor Coordination & Oversight: Work with other DBR staff and site managers to prioritize maintenance needs and gather estimates. Oversee outside contractors, review contracts and scopes of work, ensure paperwork (including insurance and town permits) is in order, and track project budgets.
  • Vehicle Fleet Management: Oversee scheduled maintenance, repairs, inspections, and upkeep for all DBR program vehicles and equipment.
  • Access & Infrastructure Support: Work with beach managers to maintain access infrastructure, beach gates, walkways, and access ramps.
  • Signage Logistics: Coordinate the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and seasonal storage of beach rules, access regulations, and educational signage across the property.
  • Event On-Site Coordination: Act as the on-site property contact for 3rd-party events, school field trips, and DBP events, working closely with the Outreach Coordinator and Administrative Coordinator.
  • Field & Vegetation Support: Assist the Coastal Ecology Program Coordinator and Director of Natural Resources with physical property tasks related to the vegetation program, student/Scout community projects, and landform monitoring logistics.
  • Support for Permitting Processes: Collaborate with the Director of Natural Resources to manage, update, and expand the collection of permits required for site maintenance and restoration activities.

Recommended Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in property management, outdoor logistics, park maintenance, or hands-on land stewardship.
  • Practical, hands-on experience in manual invasive species management, plant handling, basic building maintenance, light carpentry, and equipment/vehicle operation.
  • Knowledge of or strong interest in coastal dune environments, barrier beach dynamics, and native/invasive Massachusetts coastal plant species.
  • Must have experience and be comfortable interacting in a polite and professional manner with the public.
  • Ability to work long hours outdoors in variable and extreme weather conditions, navigate uneven terrain, and perform physical labor (including lifting up to 50 lbs and using manual hand tools).
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record required.
