Job Description:       
 
The Database Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance of critical database systems, ensuring high availability and consistent performance across production and development environments. 
 
This role requires a blend of hands-on technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership in guiding database best practices, architecture decisions, and optimization initiatives.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain enterprise-level database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.). 
  • Monitor database performance, tune queries and indexes, and manage storage to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and backup/recovery processes meet organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to database architecture, standards, and procedures.
  • Lead initiatives related to database migrations, upgrades, and consolidations.
    • Collaborate with developers, data analysts, system administrators, and other IT staff to support application development and data integration.  Activities include environment setup and IIS settings for security and performance for applications.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., ETL, PowerShell, cron jobs).
  • Manage network demands and requests with provider to ensure Agency complies with State government regulatory standards.
  • Participate in capacity planning and disaster recovery strategy development and testing.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and data privacy regulations.
    • Provide 24/7 support for mission-critical systems as needed.
Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. 
Key Competencies:
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership capabilities.
Technical Skills
  • DBMS: Proficiency with Microsoft SQL
  • Operating systems: Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux/Unix environments.
  • Scripting: Shell scripting, PowerShell, or similar for automation.
  • Backup/Recovery tools: Experience with native and third-party tools.
  • Performance tuning: Ability to optimize queries and server resources.
  • Security: Knowledge of access controls, encryption, auditing.
Preferred:
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Microsoft SQL Server
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes.
  • Experience with .Net programming languages (C#) .
  • Experience with network Firewalls.
  • Experience with PowerApps, Power BI Services, Power Automate.
