Job description

Senior Datacenter and Cloud Engineer

Cooley is seeking a Senior Technology Datacenter and Cloud Engineer to join the DevOps team.

Position summary: The Senior Data Center and Cloud Engineer ("DCE") is responsible for the firm's Datacenters and local office server rooms and is a technical expert who executes effectively on server infrastructure projects. This position will have a thorough understanding of firm technologies and systems and will be able to understand both the business and technical requirements for new products that will be engineered and implemented by the group.

Position responsibilities:

  • Analyze system performance, modify parameters to improve throughput and effectively utilize system resources. Monitor resource usage, making required adjustments
  • Participate in on-call production support activities
  • Work closely with the Architecture and Engineering group as well as the Network Engineering group to provision complex infrastructure designs, for example, the design, implementation and support of VMware server infrastructure
  • Monitor, maintain and ensure the regular execution of backup routines by responding to system alerts and maintaining data replication between datacenters and DR locations
  • Participate in the planning, testing and execution of DR/BC procedures including failover and failback between datacenters and across the Firm's network
  • Proactively create and implement procedures to prevent and reduce the severity of outages. Implement automation wherever possible
  • Responsible for implementation of required hardware and/or software for all tier and affinity infrastructure
  • Responsible for all aspects of the datacenternetwork including racking, cabling and power related to the infrastructure including those involving services from providers such as co-location management and carrier services
  • Maintain the integrity of the servers (physical and virtual), storage systems, network and security devices and overall network infrastructure for the business unit via actively monitoring, troubleshooting, and participating in regular monthly systems patching and upgrade activities
  • Responsible for identifying problem areas in a proactive way and developing solutions to meet the challenges in theDatacenter environment
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and issuemanagementthroughout the datacenter and cloud systems
  • Analyze business needs and the external environment to develop, scope, and enable implementation of enterprise infrastructure
  • Communicate ideas through presentations, reports, and documentation
  • Work with stakeholders, management, and subject matter experts to develop and implement technology strategies
  • Collaborate with technology leadership in developing and maintaining a roadmap for assigned areas
  • Coordinate with and participate in activities with vendors, as required
  • Provide clear and grammatically correct documentation, emails, procedures, and status (both verbal and written)
  • Comply with all department policies, standards and procedures
  • Participate in change control and change managementprocesses
  • Respond to administrative requests and responsibilities in a timely manner
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 6+ years' direct applicable experience (e.g., system administration with advanced systems engineering)
  • Enterprise architecture expertise for both collocated and cloud datacenters
  • Experience with Hyperscalers, specifically Azure and AWS
  • Experience with VMWare and other enterprise hypervisors

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related discipline
  • Current certifications in AWS or Azure or VMware
  • Experience working in a law firm or professional services environment
  • NetApp storage and enterprise storage protocols to include CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, and FC
  • Experience with backup software Cohesity or Veeam and AWS Backup
  • Experience with:
  • Enterprise server technology, specifically Cisco UCS
  • Scripting with PowerShell and/or Python
  • Enterprise backup technologies
  • Enterprise DR Methodologies and technologies
  • DevOps technologies and methods

The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $130,000 - $195,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
