Job description

Job Summary

Sightview Software is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with experience in Microsoft SQL Server and AWS RDS Aurora/MySQL to join an existing team of DBAs. The successful candidate will be capable of leading the design, administration, and optimization of SQL Server environments running on AWS EC2 and RDS Aurora, supporting healthcare and regulated workloads. This role is responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, security, and compliance with HIPAA/HITECH requirements for mission-critical systems containing protected health information (PHI).

Key Responsibilities
  • Administration and optimization [JM1] [JC2] of Microsoft SQL Server databases hosted on AWS EC2 and Amazon Aurora (MySQL-compatible)/RDS MySQL
  • Architect and manage highly available SQL Server environments using Always-On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Design, deploy, and operate high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions for Aurora MySQL, including Multi-AZ, read replicas, backups, and point-in-time recovery
  • Support and optimize SSRS report execution, subscriptions, caching, snapshots, and scheduling
  • In partnership with the engineering organization, review and optimize developer-written SQL code (T-SQL and MySQL) to ensure performance, scalability, and adherence to database standards
  • Design and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery solutions across SQL Server and Aurora/RDS platforms
  • Ensure database environments meet HIPAA/HITECH compliance requirements
  • Implement database security best practices, including encryption, auditing, IAM integration, and least-privilege access
  • Monitor and tune database performance, including query optimization and capacity planning for SQL Server and Aurora MySQL
  • Use monitoring and observability tools such as Amazon CloudWatch, SolarWinds[JM3] [JC4] , and DPA to track database and infrastructure health, investigate performance issues, and support proactive incident response
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across SQL Server, Aurora MySQL, Windows, Linux, and AWS storage/networking
  • Provide operational support for core AWS infrastructure components supporting database platforms, including EC2, EBS, VPC networking, security groups, load balancing, and CloudWatch monitoring
  • Support AWS platform reliability through performance monitoring, storage optimization, backup validation, patch coordination, and troubleshooting of infrastructure-related database issues
  • Automation or Infrastructure as Code experience (PowerShell, Python, Terraform)
  • Partner with security and compliance teams to support audits and risk assessments
  • Automate database operations using T-SQL, MySQL, PowerShell, and scripting tools
  • Mentor junior DBAs, maintain documentation, and runbooks
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong expertise with SQL Server 2016โ€“2022 or later
  • Strong expertise with MySQL 8.0-8.4 or later
  • Hands-on experience administering Amazon Aurora (MySQL-compatible) and/or RDS MySQL in production environments
  • Deep knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery architectures for both SQL Server and cloud-managed databases
  • Strong understanding of AWS services related to databases (EC2, RDS, Aurora, IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, Backup)
  • Experience supporting HIPAA/HITECH-regulated systems
  • Advanced T-SQL, MySQL SQL, and Windows Server administration skills
  • Experience working in an on-call model for nights and weekends.
Nice to Have
  • Experience designing multi-AZ and cross-region DR architectures
  • Experience with database migrations from SQL Server or MySQL to Amazon Aurora
  • Relevant AWS, Microsoft, or security certifications
