Job Description

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is a premier provider of high-tech IT solutions to the federal government IT market. Together as GDIT we collectively deliver cost-effective, next-generation IT solutions and services to federal civilian agencies, the Department of Defense, and the intelligence community, as they modernize their information systems.

GDIT currently has a 76-person team providing systems development, operational and infrastructure support, and application support to the Administrative Office of the US Courts. The GDIT team is currently seeking a senior database management specialist to support a critical enterprise application which includes over 100 sub-applications and to provide support to other applications and development efforts as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to provide dedicated O&M/Technical Support as outlined below:

  • Critical issue (Tier III) response and resolution services. Identify, research, and resolve reported application issues. Includes diagnosing the nature of the user or system issue and coordination of additional Tier III resources such as development, database, and network SMEs.
  • Daily monitoring of all database servers for performance to include system health status, processing of Full and transaction log backups, scheduled jobs status, sufficient disk storage on drives, and database availability.
  • Daily monitoring of production schedules, interfaces, outputs, process/system exceptions, and other operational activities to verify correct operation.
  • Problem-Solving:The ability to diagnose complex system failures under pressure.
  • Communication:Explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and documenting procedures clearly.
  • Daily operations support all components of the system (web application, operating system, file management).
  • Daily maintenance of all ancillary environments (Production, Development, Stage, UAT, Demo, Help desk),
  • Update system and technical documentation. Including existing and create new business process flow documents, and asis and tobe process flows. Recommend and update system functional requirements based on process analysis. Provide technical write-ups and standard operating procedures.
  • Create communications about system changes tailored to a variety of audiences including ASO management, other Directorates, court unit management and end users.
  • Coordinate to resolve Security scan findings to adhere to defined and evolving standards.
  • Develop solutions in accordance with US Courts and ASO policies and procedures.
  • Provide subject matter expertise recommendations in work execution for technical best practices and to provide cost savings and process improvements to the government.
  • Use the shared SDLC resources provided by the AO including but not limited to Jira, and Confluence.
  • Document status and report work hours on tasks daily.
  • Provide Tier II support as required and other duties as assigned.
  • Interacting with the end users on case-by-case scenarios

Desired Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Five (5) plus years experience with Database Administration in Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL relational database management systems.
  • Five (5) plus years experience with Design, create and support Data warehouses.
  • Five (5) plus years of relevant operations and maintenance support experience with a major federal IT system.
  • Experience with pay or budgeting and financial business rules and systems.
  • Experience and knowledge in principles and practices of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
  • Familiar with Linux administration (permissions, SE Linux, running scripts, cron jobs, mounting drives, Firewall rules).
  • Familiarization using code editors such as Microsoft Visual Studio for Code and creating SSIS packages.
  • Windows administration and Veritas NetBackup experience (file shares/mounted drives).
  • Proficiency in business tools, such as, Word, Excel, Power-Point, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and present findings in a clear and easily understandable manner.
  • Ability to present recommendations for consideration and influence as needed.
  • Familiarization with open-source applications, e.g., LAMP.
  • Familiarization with Ansible and Git.
  • Familiarization with Bash, YAML, Python, and PHP.
  • Windows administration experience (file shares/mounted drives).
  • Experience working with MySQL database.
  • Experience with Extract/Transform/Load (ETL).
  • Experience working in a load-balanced environment
  • Understanding of IT practices, service management, governance frameworks, and industry standards (i.e., ITIL, ITSM, COBIT, ISO).
  • Proficiency in business tools, such as, Word, Excel, Power-Point, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, etc.

Core Technical Skills

  • Database Administration:Proficiency in installing, configuring, upgrading and migrating SQL Server instances.
  • T-SQL Proficiency:Advanced knowledge of Transact-SQL for querying, scripting automation, and writing stored procedures and Triggers.
  • Backup & Recovery:Designing strategies to meet Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) through full, differential, and transaction log backups.
  • Performance Tuning:Expertise in query optimization, index management, and analyzing execution plans to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Security Management:Implementing role-based access control, managing permissions, and ensuring data encryption (at rest and in transit).
  • Essential Tools:Mastery ofSQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), MySQL Workbench, SQL Server Integration Service (Extract/Transform/Load (ETL)), SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, Activity Monitor, Dynamic Management views and Extended Events.

Specialized Experience:

  • Working knowledge of IT tracking tools, preferably ServiceNow and Jira.

Education and Experience Requirements:

BA/BS with 10+ years of directly related IT experience (or MA/MS with 7+ years of directly related IT experience).

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $111,155 - $150,385. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
