Job description

Job Title: Data Systems Specialist
Reports To: Data Systems Lead
Supervisory: No

Compensation:
  • Pay range: $18.00-$20.00/ hour
  • Benefits: For employees contracted for 30 hours per week or more, Thomas MacLaren School pays for 100% of the employee’s base insurance premiums (Health, Dental, Vision, Long-term and Short-term disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance, and Life insurance) for the base level coverages. No benefits are provided to employees contracted for less than 30 hours per week.
General Purpose: The Data Systems Specialist supports assigned data systems used by the school, ensuring a positive experience for staff, students and parents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the system administrator, or support to the system administrator, for data systems used by the school
    • Monitor release notes; evaluate new features; communicate changes to key stakeholders
    • Create and maintain custom fields, screens and reports to meet emerging needs of the school and staff
    • Manage user accounts and permission settings
    • Monitor and oversee data accuracy in student data systems
    • Complete End of Year, rollover and Start of Year data system tasks
    • Collaborate with Registrar to schedule students into appropriate courses
    • Collaborate with other team members to synchronize data sharing between multiple platforms
  • Collaborate with Registrar to ensure timely and accurate student data entry as required by the state Department of Education
  • Collaborates with Registrar to support enrollment forms and platform
  • Ensures accurate and timely state submissions
  • Supports and maintain accurate SPED coding
  • Collaborate with Data Systems Lead to maintain all licensing agreements
  • Comply with Colorado state law and FERPA best practices regarding protecting student data privacy
  • Consult with departments regarding software and data system needs
  • Research, evaluate and assist with implementation of new data systems
  • Collect, create and edit documentation for frequently repeated technology tasks
  • Assist in supporting end user needs
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications:
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Demonstrated computer and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with large databases, such as PowerSchool
  • Strong understanding of database design and the interconnectivity of school data platforms
  • Willingness to explore and learn new systems; adaptability and willingness to embrace significant changes to existing systems
  • Strong Excel skills for analyzing and transferring data
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Resourcefulness and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to manage projects with conflicting deadlines
  • Proven ability and interest in working in a team environment while also managing individual responsibilities independently
  • Ability to own complex projects from inception to completion
  • Eagerness to work with students and their families
  • Eagerness to be part of the administrative team for Thomas MacLaren School
Education: High School Diploma
Experience:
  • Experience working with a variety of data systems (e.g., student information system, assessment platforms, customer support ticket system, and similar tools)
  • Experience working with PowerSchool preferred
