Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE:  

The Benefits System Coordinator is responsible for organizing and managing client benefits within the benefit administration system. Understanding group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, travel and accident plans, etc.).  

This position provides excellent customer service and requires outstanding communication skills. The coordinator will continually update and audit the benefit administration system including adding new benefit plans, removing unused plans, assisting with eligibility uploads, reviewing discrepancy reports and monitoring the overall benefits administration system. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understands client benefits plans and vendors to understand the plans and administration of each policy.  

  • Obtains knowledge of industry trends. Analyze complex benefits information.  Be a resource for the team to share this information. 

  • Audits system to ensure client enrollments are accurate. 

  • Serves as a primary system contact for clients and benefit system vendor.  

  • Coordinates transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.  

  • Coordinates daily benefits processing including carrier file feeds. Understand other enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims. 

  • Oversees group benefits database. 

  • Audits the accuracy and performance of benefit administration system.  

  • Provides customer service support to internal and external clients. Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of benefits packages.  

  • Evaluates and revises internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.  

  • Documents and maintains administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes. 

  • Ensures compliance with applicable government regulations. 

  • Other job duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS:  

Knowledge, Skills and Ability 

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint and Excel; experience with HRIS and benefits databases. 

  • Project and team management/leadership skills and experience.  

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.  

  • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines. 

  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs.  

  • Knowledge of benefits contract language. 

  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Medicare, COBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements. 

  • Excellent communication and organization skills. 

Education or Experience 

  • Requires possession and maintenance of a Life and Health license 

  • Must have acurrent driver’slicense andaninsurable driving record. 

  • Experience with Employee Navigator or another Benefits Administration system is preferred. 

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred. 

  • Previous insurance experience is preferred.
