AspectData Reporting AnalystData Analyst
Required SkillsData visualization, reporting tools, SQLData analysis, statistical skills, SQL
Work EnvironmentBusiness intelligence teams, reporting departmentsData science teams, analytics departments
Common CertificationsMicrosoft Power BI, Tableau certificationsGoogle Data Analytics, SAS certifications

While both roles involve working with data, Data Reporting Analysts primarily focus on creating reports and dashboards to communicate insights, whereas Data Analysts perform deeper data analysis, interpret trends, and provide strategic recommendations. The roles often overlap, but the Reporting Analyst emphasizes visualization and reporting tools, making them essential for presenting data to stakeholders efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Reporting Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Reporting Analyst, you typically need strong analytical abilities, proficiency in data visualization, and a solid understanding of statistics, often supported by a degree in a quantitative field. Familiarity with tools like SQL, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, or Power BI, as well as experience with database management systems, is highly valued. Attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving skills are crucial soft skills for interpreting data and sharing insights with stakeholders. These competencies enable Data Reporting Analysts to provide accurate, actionable reports that inform business decisions and drive organizational success.

How does a Data Reporting Analyst typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Data Reporting Analysts frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with teams such as finance, marketing, operations, and IT to gather requirements, understand business objectives, and ensure the accuracy of reports. They often act as a bridge between technical data systems and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex data findings into actionable insights. Regular meetings, project updates, and collaborative data validation are common, making strong communication skills essential for success in this role.

What does a Data Reporting Analyst do?

A Data Reporting Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large sets of data to help organizations make informed decisions. They develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations to present findings to stakeholders clearly and effectively. Their work often involves using tools like Excel, SQL, and business intelligence platforms to extract insights and identify trends. In addition to technical skills, Data Reporting Analysts need strong communication abilities to explain complex data in understandable terms.

Job description

At T-Mobile, we invest in YOU! Our Total Rewards Package ensures that employees get the same big love we give our customers. All team members receive a competitive base salary and compensation package - this is Total Rewards. Employees enjoy multiple wealth-building opportunities through our annual stock grant, employee stock purchase plan, 401(k), and access to free, year-round money coaches. That's how we're UNSTOPPABLE for our employees!
Job Overview
T-Mobile is seeking an ESG reporting and data governance analyst to join their ESG Strategy & Sustainability team. This is a great opportunity for candidates with demonstrated hands-on, professional experience in ESG disclosure, data governance, and the reporting platforms that support them - not an entry-level or IT/systems role. This role splits evenly between two interconnected responsibilities: driving T-Mobile's ESG data collection, validation, and external disclosure processes; and the ESG reporting platform that makes that work possible, including supporting the evaluation and onboarding of a next-generation system. This is an ESG reporting role first; platform expertise is the tool, not the objective.
** This is a hybrid role (3 days/week) in the office. Our preferred locations are Overland Park, KS or Frisco, TX; we may also consider Bellevue, WA **
Job Responsibilities
  • Manage and support T-Mobile's ESG data collection, validation, and reporting processes, serving as the central "source of truth" for ESG metrics and disclosures. This includes working across the business to collect and inventory ESG-related data within critical timelines.
  • Serve as the business owner of T-Mobile's ESG reporting platform, ensuring it is configured and maintained to meet reporting, controls, and audit readiness requirements.
  • Work with ESG platform vendor to guide implementation decisions and configure and tailor the platform to T-Mobile's reporting environment - with a focus on data accuracy, validation controls, and workflow efficiency.
  • Lead ESG data execution for annual reporting projects, quarterly progress updates, internal dashboards, and ad hoc requests from key partners.
  • Maintain SOPs and required documentation to support internal reporting controls and external assurance readiness of ESG metrics and indicators.
  • Seek opportunities to improve data reliability, strengthen controls, and streamline reporting workflows.
  • Provide data, analytics, and insights to support ESG and Sustainability strategic decisions and performance management.
  • Support company's ESG ratings and ranker submissions (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS) through timely data validation and performance analysis.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal partners by supporting them during data development and metrics creation.
  • Maintain awareness of industry-wide standards and developments in ESG and appropriately provide consultation on internal changes as necessary.
  • Assist with various projects as needed.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant professional experience plus 2-4 years of progressive, hands-on experience in ESG reporting, data governance, or sustainability disclosure - with demonstrated ownership of reporting processes or data systems, not solely analytical or research support roles. Corporate, consulting, or assurance experience preferred.
  • Direct experience managing or administering an ESG reporting platform (e.g., Nasdaq Metrio, Workiva, ServiceNow, Pulsora, Novisto, Watershed, or similar) in a reporting or governance capacity, including hands-on administration to compile, validate, and manage data from various sources.
  • Working knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and regulations, including GRI, SASB, CSRD, ISSB, TCFD, and EU Taxonomy.
  • Strong data governance background with direct experience implementing validation controls, documentation standards, and audit-ready reporting processes.
  • Experience supporting external assurance or audit processes for ESG or financial disclosures.
  • Familiarity with ESG ratings and assessments such as MSCI, ISS, and Sustainalytics.
  • Good communicator able to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data into clear, executive-ready insights across functions and levels.
  • Analytical problem solver able to identify and triage data issues to drive tactical solutions.
  • Able to build strong relationships with internal partners and develop deep content knowledge quickly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple projects, and meet quick deadlines.

Preferred:
  • Experience participating in an ESG platform selection, migration, or implementation project from a reporting or business perspective.
  • Background in internal controls, compliance, or financial reporting.
  • Experience with process automation or data workflow tools to improve reporting efficiency.

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
