To thrive as a Data Project Coordinator, you need strong project management skills, data analysis abilities, and a background in fields like information systems or business administration. Familiarity with project management tools (such as Asana or Trello), data visualization software (like Tableau or Power BI), and proficiency in Excel or SQL are commonly required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help you manage stakeholders and coordinate complex data-driven projects. These skills ensure timely project delivery, data accuracy, and effective collaboration across teams.

What are some common challenges faced by Data Project Coordinators when managing cross-functional teams, and how can these be addressed?

Data Project Coordinators frequently manage projects that require collaboration across departments such as IT, analytics, and business operations. A common challenge is aligning different teams’ priorities and communication styles, which can lead to misunderstandings or delays. To address this, effective coordinators establish clear project timelines, facilitate regular status meetings, and use project management tools to ensure transparency. Building strong relationships and understanding each team's workflow also helps anticipate bottlenecks, enabling smoother project execution.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.

The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention (SCHARP) at Fred Hutch is a full service statistical and data management center focused on HIV prevention research. SCHARP has an annual budget of over $40 million, more than 130 employees and is currently managing over 40 active phase I - III clinical trials in over 150 clinical sites around the world. SCHARP is seeking a temporary Clinical Data Project Coordinator I to coordinates activities in support of network, protocol-specific and/or departmental projects for the Clinical Data Management department.

Most Fred Hutch jobs require some on-campus work. However, there may be flexibility for certain positions. Please check with the recruiter if you are an out-of-state applicant interested only in working outside of the Seattle area.

Responsibilities
  • Work with project sponsor, stakeholders and SCHARP team members to define project requirements, scope, organization and approach.
  • Coordinate study and administrative activities, working with Clinical Data Managers to ensure activities are completed according to given timelines.
  • Assist in the development, review, editing, and revision of administrative materials in support of network and/or protocol specific projects.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance and updating of departmental templates, standardized materials and documentation for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
  • Assist departmental liaison, representing a project to other Center departments, funding sources, affiliated individuals or institutions, and outside organizations.
  • Assist the SCHARP statisticians and programmers with tracking Investigational New Drug (IND) tables and serve as central point of contact for DAIDs Regulatory Compliance Center regarding timelines.
  • Assist with the preparation of study progress reports for network operational meetings.
  • Assist with the management of project/study database(s) and work with programmers in developing and upgrading database to ensure maximum effectiveness, as required.
  • Manage the coordination, formatting and production of special and recurring reports (e.g. data management quality reports, DSMB).
  • Perform other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of one year post-master's or three years post-bachelor's project coordination experience in a research setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Detail oriented, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills are essential including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Clinical trials or medical research experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative in a dynamic environment.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $31.83 to $47.73 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
