JOB SUMMARY
Ensure the reliability, availability, and operational excellence of data platforms across cloud and on-premises environments by leading incident response, driving automation, and implementing robust monitoring and observability frameworks. This role oversees migrations and releases with strict compliance and integrity standards, optimizes data pipelines and storage strategies for performance and cost efficiency, and develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans. It also enforces security and governance controls, manages FinOps and capacity planning for data workloads, and fosters organizational learning through mentorship and knowledge sharing to advance best practices in data reliability and operational excellence.
JOB DUTIES
  • Understands and applies principles, theories and concepts related to the profession and ERCOT's culture.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Impact is generally limited to specific assignments or projects.
  • May respond to inquiries and/or provide assistance and/or guidance to lower level workers.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
  • Ensure end-to-end reliability of data platforms, including cloud (Azure Databricks, ADLS) and on-premises systems (Oracle, Informatica, SAS, Cognos).
  • Lead incident response and root-cause analysis for critical data operations issues, driving permanent fixes.
  • Architect monitoring and observability frameworks for data pipelines, BI refreshes, and platform health, leveraging golden signals and automated checks.
  • Design and implement automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions to streamline operational workflows and environment provisioning.
  • Govern data migrations, releases, and upgrades, ensuring integrity, rollback strategies, and compliance with change management standards.
  • Optimize data pipelines, queries, and storage strategies for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency across hybrid environments.
  • Develop and validate disaster recovery and business continuity plans for data platforms, meeting RTO/RPO objectives.
  • Drive FinOps practices and capacity planning for data workloads, enforcing cost guardrails and resource optimization.
  • Implement security and compliance controls for data operations, ensuring audit readiness and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor analysts and curate knowledge assets, fostering best practices in data reliability, governance, and operational excellence.

EXPERIENCE
  • 5+ years of job-related work experience in excess of degree requirements
  • Extensive experience with enterprise-scale cloud and on-premises data platforms
  • Background in ITIL process implementation and operational governance

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's Degree : in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field; (Required)
  • or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
