Job description

Title: Data Analyst
Location: Austin, TX (Flexible / Hybrid)
Reporting to: Director, GTM
About Hippo:
Hippo was built on a promise: make homeownership effortless. Nearly a decade later, that mission still drives us. We use technology and data to help our customers stay ahead of problems and protect what matters most.
Today, that same tech-native approach powers our work beyond homeowners. Hippo operates as a diversified carrier platform, partnering with MGAs to deliver tailored program solutions that help them grow and deliver better customer experiences. Behind that work is a team that values ownership, curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
If you're energized by building what's next, we'd love to meet you.
About This Role:
The Data Analyst will play a key role in supporting Hippo's Business Enablement & Insights function by driving analytics across Portfolio Management and Partner Programs, helping business leaders understand portfolio performance, profitability, risk exposure, partner performance, and operational outcomes to inform strategic decision-making and drive business growth.
This role goes beyond traditional reporting-focusing on translating complex data into actionable insights that drive profitable growth, operational efficiency, and risk-aware decision-making. The analyst will partner closely with leaders across business domains to monitor performance, diagnose drivers, and identify opportunities to optimize outcomes across the business.
As part of a centralized analytics team, this individual will help ensure consistent metrics, strong data foundations, and high-impact insights that directly support Hippo's strategic and financial goals.
About You:
You have a bias for action and enjoy driving initiatives from insight to impact - innovating not just for the sake of it, but to move the needle on outcomes that matter. You bring strong analytical skills and experience in business analytics across growth (GTM) and/or insurance domains such as retention, underwriting, and claims. You act like an owner: going beyond reporting to identify trends, diagnose root causes, and recommend clear, actionable next steps. You are detail-oriented and proactive, continuously looking for opportunities to improve performance. You thrive in cross-functional environments, embrace diverse perspectives to sharpen your thinking, and communicate insights in ways that resonate with stakeholders across the business - because you know that the best results come from being in it together.
What You'll Do:
  • Build and maintain dashboards to track performance across growth and insurance KPIs (e.g., risk aggregation, retention, loss ratio, claims efficiency, underwriting performance).
  • Analyze trends and performance drivers across portfolio performance, insurance programs, underwriting, claims, risk exposure, and financial results, surfacing insights that impact growth, profitability, and strategic decision-making
  • Identify root causes of performance fluctuations and proactively highlight areas requiring action.
  • Partner with stakeholders across GTM and insurance functions to inform data-driven strategies and operational decisions.
  • Support retention and lifecycle analytics, including churn drivers, LTV, segmentation, and customer experience insights.
  • Contribute to claims and underwriting analytics, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, risk selection, and loss outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Technology and Data Engineering teams to define data requirements and improve data quality, tracking, and accessibility.
  • Develop executive-ready reports and presentations with clear insights and recommended actions.
  • Support forecasting, scenario modeling, and performance tracking against AOP and strategic targets.

Must Haves:
  • 5-8 years of experience in business analytics, strategy, or operations (experience in insurance or insurtech is a plus).
  • Strong analytical and technical skills (SQL, Excel, Tableau).
  • Experience working with performance metrics across growth and/or insurance domains (e.g., marketing funnels, retention, claims, underwriting).
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional partners.
  • A proactive problem solver who takes ownership and drives outcomes.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with evolving priorities.

Benefits and Perks:
Hippo treats its team members with the same level of dedication and care as we do our customers, which is why we're fortunate to provide all of our Hippos with:
  • Relocation Assistance - Support available for qualified candidates relocating to one of our hub locations
  • Healthy Hippos Benefits - Multiple medical plans to choose from and 100% employer covered dental & vision plans for our team members and their families. We also offer a 401(k)-retirement plan, short & long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for health and dependent care, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
