At Nueces Electric Cooperative, we are committed to fostering our students' growth and development by providing a supportive work culture that promotes creativity and excellence. We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our dynamic team as a Business Operations Intern. Our mission is to continually make a positive impact on our members and communities, enhancing their quality of life by delivering reliable and cost-effective electric service in a culture where safety is priority. This non-exempt position pays $12.00 per hour and allows for a maximum of twenty hours of work per week. We are seeking a college student who is currently pursuing a degree from an accredited program in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field with a junior or senior undergraduate status preferred. Work hours are flexible within our business hours of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, to accommodate classes and other activities.

Position Summary

This internship provides individuals with a comprehensive introduction to administrative and operational support to the Accounting and Member Services departments. This position assists with a variety of tasks related to member support, financial processes, records management, and general office operations while gaining exposure to the electric cooperative industry. Interns receive instruction, engage in job shadowing, and participate in supervised activities to build foundational industry knowledge. Supporting the Manager, the intern undertakes responsibilities across both domains, fostering a well-rounded experience. This temporary, training-oriented position is designed to facilitate career exploration and skill acquisition.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily administrative activities supporting Accounting and Member Services.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to members and employees.
  • Support billing, payment processing, account maintenance, and records management activities.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain files, reports, and other business documents.
  • Assist with data entry and ensure accuracy of information and records.

Minimum Requirements

Must be available to work a maximum of 20 hours per week as assigned. Currently pursuing a degree from an accredited program in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Junior or senior undergraduate status preferred. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and meet deadlines. Team player with a proactive and positive attitude. High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive information. Eagerness to learn and apply knowledge to real-world challenges. Hold a valid Texas Class C Driver's License.

Preferred Requirements

Junior or senior college undergraduate status preferred. Proficiency with drafting and creating reports, and Microsoft software.
