Director, Data Center Operations

That's why our team is looking to add a Director in Data Center Operations.

As a Facility Operations Director, you will be accountable for the oversight of facility management and infrastructure operations at our "Critical Facilities" (two data centers and one processing center) and several corporate office facilities (primarily located in Illinois and Utah).

The ideal candidate should:

  • Understand local codes, OSHA, EPA, NFPA guidelines

  • Read and understands construction drawings and Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) submittals

  • Be knowledgeable on Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Generator, Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC), Chiller, Rooftop Unit (RTU), Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) operations function and best practice maintenance programs

  • Experience with critical equipment and systems commissioning processes in a data center environment

  • Experience managing operations across multiple data center facilities

  • Be knowledgeable in sustainability programs that support emission reduction targets and stays ahead of industry trends and best practices

  • Build understanding and drive consensus across diverse groups towards successful outcomes

  • Be able to unify teams around a clear scope of work while developing solutions tailored to customer needs

  • Demonstrate a strong command of stakeholder engagement to inspire diversity of thought to foster progress on GWS priorities.

  • Demonstrate broad knowledge of multiple roles & functions, and leverage that knowledge into tangible benefits, including associate development

  • Draw on experience and broader business knowledge to drive strategic analyses, manage risks, and make sound decisions

  • Effectively communicate with a tailored approach to multiple stakeholders in cross functional teams

  • Integrate values into every interaction, celebrate team wins and set example for other associates to follow

  • Ensure the team is solving the right problems and navigate to solutions through clear, logical decision making

  • Be accountable for group results by setting objectives, managing priorities, reporting progress, and proactively making offers to optimize deliverables

  • Set team tone and culture by leading with purpose, prioritizing empowerment and psychological safety; and consider expertise from broader team to delegate and create leverage

  • Own and demonstrate Capital One values and integrate them into both own and team's work products and communications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of facility operations associates primarily dedicated to our data and processing centers

  • Provide oversight of a third party facilities management and engineering team to execute on key responsibilities and monitor Key Performance Indicator metrics

  • Partner with the Technology line of business to ensure compliance with our inter-company service level agreement for data center facility oversight and management

  • Partner with project managers and engineering to comply with corporate change control processes for maintenance and construction efforts for critical systems

  • Support both internal and external audit requests as needed

  • Support critical response teams during a crisis or emergency

  • Monitors critical systems uptime for Capital One facility infrastructure

  • Align operations with capacity, performance, and sustainability objectives; oversee optimization initiatives that reduce Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), improve utilization, and control operating costs

  • Conduct and maintain site inspection documents for properties within your assigned area

  • Audit site records for compliance with OSHA, NFPA and EPA required reporting

  • Maintain operations in accordance with Local, State and Federal Laws

  • Review and provide input for operational and capital expense budgets

  • Support infrastructure and MEP capital projects and building systems commissioning

  • Support annual updates of all critical equipment assets, their general condition, and end of life status

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in data center operations or infrastructure management

  • At least 7 years of experience commissioning critical systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in data center operations or infrastructure management

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance for OSHA or EPA

  • 5+ years of experience in optimizing sustainability programs

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Riverwoods, IL: $173,000 - $197,400 for Director, Workplace Services











Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
