What is the difference between Data Consulting vs Data Analysis?

AspectData ConsultingData Analysis
Required CredentialsTypically requires a degree in business, data science, or related fields; certifications like CBIP or CDMP are commonUsually requires a degree in statistics, mathematics, or related fields; certifications like CAP or Microsoft Data Analyst are beneficial
Work EnvironmentConsultants often work with multiple clients across industries, providing strategic advice and solutionsAnalysts generally work within organizations, focusing on interpreting data to inform business decisions
Employer & Industry UsageConsulting firms, large corporations, and agenciesCorporations, research institutions, and data-driven departments

Data Consulting involves advising organizations on data strategies, architecture, and solutions, often across multiple clients. Data Analysis focuses on examining data sets to uncover insights and support decision-making within a specific organization. While both roles require strong analytical skills, Data Consulting emphasizes strategic guidance, whereas Data Analysis centers on data interpretation and reporting.

What is data consulting?

Data consulting is a professional service that helps organizations leverage data to make informed decisions, optimize operations, and drive business growth. Data consultants analyze existing data systems, recommend strategies for data collection and management, and help implement analytics tools. They often assist with data visualization, reporting, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Their expertise enables companies to turn raw data into actionable insights, improving efficiency and competitiveness.

How do data consultants typically collaborate with clients and internal teams during a project?

Data consultants frequently work in close partnership with both clients and internal stakeholders to identify business challenges, define project objectives, and design effective data-driven solutions. This often involves regular meetings to understand client needs, ongoing communication with data engineers or analysts, and presenting actionable insights in a clear, non-technical manner. Collaboration is key, as consultants must translate complex data findings into strategies that align with the client's goals while ensuring alignment across technical and business teams. The role requires strong interpersonal and project management skills to keep projects on track and deliver measurable value.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Consultant, you need expertise in data analysis, data modeling, and a solid understanding of business intelligence, often supported by a degree in a quantitative field. Proficiency with tools such as SQL, Python, data visualization platforms (like Tableau or Power BI), and familiarity with data governance frameworks are typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and client management skills set standout consultants apart. These competencies are crucial to effectively translate complex data into actionable insights and drive strategic decision-making for clients.

With the support of your project teams, you will carry out diverse projects and tasks, allowing you to be as close as possible to customer issues, impart your knowledge of data concepts and applications, and further develop your business and analytical skills. Our most successful Managers quickly gain additional responsibilities.

Key tasks include:

  • Manage a project autonomously (organize work in sub-stream and distribute the work fairly, set up team OKRs, provide visibility to client sponsors and build robust project planning anticipating deadlines, delays & risks)
  • Structure mission deliverables (produce C-Level exec sum autonomously, write key presentation storyline with the partner's support, ensure deck meets Artefact quality standards)
  • Make people under their influence progress (deliver precise feedback to the team to improve slides & decks: best practices, methodologies..., keep the team engaged and motivated, set SMART objectives, and evaluate team members properly)
  • Maximize client NPS (build the client development strategy with the partner, detect client needs, put together farming proposals, pitch artefact..)
    • Defining client needs by conducting interviews with client teams and technology partners
    • Helping build, formulate and present strategic data recommendations for clients
  • Perform advanced data analysis and research to solve high-impact, strategic problems facing our clients
  • Develop new business proposals to convert client prospects (content development on business-relevant topics (e.g. Artefact-published research, articles, and business cases)

What we are looking for

We're looking for forward-thinkers who are poised to make an impact, are ready to help our clients in their digital and data journeys, and will help to position Artefact at the forefront of innovation and disruption. As someone who will help shape our U.S. office's growth, we need a consultant who's naturally curious, independent, team-oriented, and eager to learn. We'll give you the tools and training to be successful, and you'll come armed with the following:

  • 5 - 7 years of full-time, client-facing work experience in consulting, media, marketing strategy, or another related field
  • An entrepreneur mindset, meaning you always try to find a solution and always eager to learn new things
  • You love data and think every company should take their decisions with facts
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in Business, Marketing, Technology, or other areas related to our business.
  • Knowledge of strategy consulting and/or digital marketing (within a start-up, agency, etc.) is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse team members; strong intercultural communication skills are a must
  • Intermediate to advanced familiarity with Google Suite as well as Excel and PowerPoint
  • Interest in digital, data, and the tech economy as a whole

Why You Should Join Us

At this stage in your career, you have options. Here's what makes Artefact different:

Real ownership, right away. We're building our US practice from the ground up, which means your contributions don't disappear into a bureaucracy - they shape the trajectory of an entire market.

Work that's actually at the frontier. Our clients aren't asking yesterday's questions. You'll be tackling problems where AI and advanced analytics are actively reshaping industries - and you'll be expected to lead that conversation.

A global network that makes you better. With 26 offices worldwide, you'll tap into methodologies, expertise, and colleagues across every major market. Our scale gives you resources; our culture gives you autonomy.

We are united by our values and strengthened by our hybrid expertise:

  • There is always a way - We're builders, diggers, and makers. Ideas only count if they get executed.
  • Client trust is won in the field - We show up where it matters, working side by side with our clients to solve what's real.
  • If not used, it is useless - We build for adoption and impact. True brilliance is measured by what changes, not what's delivered.
  • If not shared, our work is not done - Sharing knowledge is how we close the loop - for our clients and for each other.
  • We learn every day - In a field moving at the speed of light, intellectual curiosity isn't optional. It's survival.

Compensation & Benefits

The estimated base compensation for this role starts at $140,000. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, this role is eligible for a competitive benefits package.
