Job description

Tuknik Government Services, LLC a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking Data Center Tech to support TGS and our government customer in Durham, NC

The Computer Facilities and Environmental Branch (CFEB) is responsible for short and long-range data center space allocation and resource planning, mainframe hardware installation, structured cabling, and hardware manipulation of IT equipment in all of these locations.

The computer operations centers support the programmatic, administrative, management information, statistical application systems, telecommunications network, electronic messaging system, and computer infrastructure and telecommunications equipment for the customer. 

Team supports the facilities management of the customer’s raised-floor computer room environments and assists in developing and implementing facilities for both mainframe and open systems.

Job Responsibilities:

Duties will include site development and maintenance in support of the following: any approved customer projects for open systems, mainframe support, data cabling, vendor engagement, Business Continuity, for the various offices. 

  • Technicians will perform all IT-related equipment installation, removal, or maintenance, along with any environmental changes.
  • Prepare designated work orders, as necessary, to modify the facility for installation of network equipment.
  • Support detailed mainframe migration plans to include a step-by-step approach to the relocation and delivery of hardware systems and equipment to the computer room, according to timeframes and parameters established by the customer project schedules.
  • Verify the following: cable layouts, lengths, and labeling of cables, physical layout of hardware and cables in accordance with proposed configuration charts.
  • Document information, detailing the IT hardware installation, in the Service Now (SNOW) system.
  • Analyze and make recommendations for all hardware installations with regard to the physical and logical constraints of the hardware requirements, utilizing state-of-the-art technology in network configurations and physical planning.
  • Install and uninstall equipment and provide status updates regarding the completeness of installation.
  • Support the installation of mainframe and Open Systems equipment; to include all facility-related activities, i.e. power, cabling, air circulation, etc. 
  • Recommend physical location and cabling configurations of the hardware and facilitates implementation.
  • Install single-mode fiber, multi-mode fiber, RJ45 Terminable, InfiniBand, and any other cables utilized in the IT infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot problem resolution issues.
  • Maintain equipment inventories on the customer, Service Now (SNOW) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tool.
  • Update and develop specialized information reports as directed. Panel schedules would be an example of a specialized report.
  • Document the existing environment, including CAD drawings, and perform computer facilities space and environmental planning.
  • Support development of all documentation requesting building modifications/alterations necessary to install and operate hardware at the proposed site. Documentation shall include power requirements, panel schedules, and scope of work. The contractor shall physically verify that all facilities are properly prepared, prior to the installation of hardware into such facilities.
  • Provide analysis regarding power utilization and impact on cooling capacity, resolve network problem situations, and manage ongoing configuration decisions relating to the physical layout of the supported network infrastructure system.
  • Facilitate support activities which include certification of the following: 
  • verification of communications cable distance specification compliance
  • placement of floor tile cutout
  • physical movement/placement of the equipment
  • Perform on-site inspection of the following: electrical service (including panel loads, outlets, and power and grounding requirements), Uninterruptible Power Supplies, HVAC requirements (including humidity levels and supplemental requirements for equipment).
  • Prepare guidelines for determining power requirements and availability, space requirements, optimum configurations and layout, and cable requirements and lengths. Guidelines should be in Microsoft Word format.
  • Pack, insure, ship, and receive designated office/computer equipment to/from designated locations using a common carrier or other means agreed to by the customer.

Education, Experience and Skills:

 

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Data Center Facilities Ops
  • Experience desired in DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) and Nlyte software. 
  • Due to the large number of equipment installations and projected incoming equipment, shall be capable of performing the duties described with minimal supervision within ninety-days from the start of this task.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Engineering. Computer Science. Mathematics or a related field.
  • High skills on how to work with fiber optic cables as well as ethernet cables.
  • Must be capable of manufacturing various cables on short notice, with provided supplies.
  • Be able to utilize both mechanical (hand tools, drills, etc.) and electronic (meters, Fluke Fiber Test equipment, etc.) devices to perform assigned functions.
  • Duties frequently require lifting or manipulating heavy equipment (Some equipment can weigh well over 100 pounds) and require manipulation with mechanical lifts or other similar lifting devices.
  • Adequate knowledge of telecommunication links and modes of data transmission, including all cable configurations.
  • Expertise with installation of Firewalls and web gateway devices, servers, routers, switches, etc., and all associated hardware, cable installation, and housing of equipment in cabinets, with the primary emphasis on safety. 
  • Shall have an understanding of the setup and workings of a multi-platform environment, which includes knowledge of all types of I/O (Input/Output) Devices for Mainframe and Open Systems equipment.
  • Possesses working knowledge of current Information Technology principles and practices of architecture, data management systems.
  • Experience in system designs and data modeling in the information management arena. Provides input to modeling and organizing information to facilitate support of projects or information architectures.
  • Experience planning, designing, building, and implementing IT systems.
  • Provides guidance on data and process model.
  • Provide input to transition planning from legacy to modern systems by concentrating on information flows, data exchange. and data translation standardization services.
